Lost Isle RELEASED

Prior to getting in to Level 1, somehow I've managed to lose my big shield. I'm assuming it was from being grabbed by one of the hands, but I can't say for sure. Is there any way to get the shield back? I went back into the cave where it was located, but of course, it wasn't there. Anyone hit this snag yet?

There are a few places in the game where you can get another shield, but I don't remember where.

Anyways, I got the key. And I just relized you use bombs to get both of the keys in the level. (You bomb the plant and the Pillar). How long did it take to make the level?

Stigmata, you probably won't be able to get another shield until you get a few items after level 1, so for now, you're stuck without a better shield. Be more careful around hands next time.

2-3 months! Wow I wish I had that kind of patience. Well, I'm on level 3, and the game's just getting better and better. Is the boomerang required to beat the game, or just to get all the triforce peices? And another thing, what exactly are the triforce peices doing on the island anyways?

Yeah, you gotta have patience and ambition to be able to finish a quest like Lost Isle...

You need the Boomerang to beat Level 3. There are 2 crystals on the level that are out of reach and can only be hit by a Boomerang.

About Triforce pieces, you have to ask Wolfie about that. They're just there for the little sidequest, but this is the first time anyone asks why there are Triforce pieces on the island. I just like to think it is some random triforce that has nothing to do with the Triforce in Hyrule and other Zelda games.... but maybe Wolfie can offer a better explanation. 😉

Oh man, I'm sure as hell glad I got the mirror shield before going into level 5. Well, now I've got the holy arrows, so catacombs it is. After the red mail of course.

As for the triforce, I think link had it, then when his ship recked it shattered into 6 peices which flew all over the island in different directions, when they landed they magically created the triforce dungeons.

That's a good theory. Here's my question: If you need the boomerang to complete the dungeon, why isn't it required to enter the dungeon? People might see the switch, realize you need the boomerang, and then search the whole dungeon for an item that isn't in it.

Even I am in disbelief that I did this in one try, I expected to beat him don't get me wrong, and I did use 2 medicines, but did not expect to do it without dying, but yet I did.

russadwan, you raise a good question. I guess it can be a minor annoyance not knowing that the Boomerang is needed there... Oh well, a mistake I shall not repeeat in my future games. 😊

And yeah Anarchy, you are incredible...

Is there a way to hit orlach without touching the blue portal thing in front of him? Cus I read that you're supposed to hit him the eyes with arrows when his eyes flash, the only place I know that could possibly line up without touching the portal doesn't work because I die right before I'm lined up with his eyes.

Edit -nevermind, I guess I read whatever it was wrong or something.

*sigh* - Now I have to go and kill orlach again because it did not save at the apocolypse stage, damnit! And you know what? I lost the medicines too. Damnit. Luckily I had a save from before this happen, but I have to go through the level 1-4 sections again, and frankly, I'm too pissed off to do that tonight.

Sort of off topic, but I thought I'd bring this up again. Peteo or DFW, I'm happy to provide either of you with scripting for whatever quest you want to make next. You've both shown you have very rare dedication to bringing a large quest to conclusion and both shown very high quality in questmanship. Whatever quest you want to make next, let me know. You can design it with no limitations - anything you can imagine, be it a new item, boss, level trick, we can get scripted up for you.

So, let me know.

When I feel up and ready again to make another quest, I'll take you up on that offer. And you'll be glad to know that my next quest, I intend to make it as far different than anything else I've ever made before. But for right now, I need a long rest.

Thanks, C!
Right now I have my sights on a big non-ZC related project that I was inveted into, but there are problems with it and if it doesn't take off the ground, I will be starting a new ambitious ZC quest at the beginning of next year and your help would definitely enable me to carry out my wildest plans and fantasies... 😊

I did it, got the screens and the save file to prove it, should I go ahead and make a new topic about all this?

BTW - I knew, I just knew the fire boomerang was in there, and how right I was.

I just finished playing Minish Cap again on the Gameboy Advance and this game definately blows it out of the water. It's only because your levels and overworld provide a very nice challenge and your levels are most importantly, NOT LINEAR! I mean, after you get an item, you don't always know what to do next. With Minish Cap, waay too easy, even the last dungeon.

Just wanted to say thanks again for making such an awesome quest.

Yeah, thanks. ^_^

Actually the reason I am making these fan games is that the "real Zelda games" have been so disappointing for me lately. They provide no challenge, not enough unique ideas, no interesting dungeon designs etc. so have to do my own games that offer those things I want to see in games. Now I'm not saying Lost Isle is better than any of the real Zelda games, but I'm glad someone thinks it is. And as long as the quality of modern games stays as low as it is now, I will continue making these free games for people.

Well I quess I had better call up Mr. Miyamota and tell him to keep the horrible games coming.😃. Anyways, this is smoething I noticed. It seems like you can't get to the boomerang until you get the stepladder. The stepladder is in level 3, which you need the boomerang to beat. That means you would have to play through level three until you get the ladder, exit, climb Mt. Horgus, then go back and finish level three. Am I missing some other way to get to the boomerang? I even looked at the map on the Lost Isle website that shows the cave system and couldn't figure it out. I swear, Mt. Horgus cave system is more of a pain in the butt then the Death Mountain cave system in Zelda II.

The cave with the boomerang has a path to it which isn't exactly hidden, if you're really stuck, just go to the Lost Isle website and look at the spoiler map, you can find the cave where it's at very easily that way.

*bows* Why thank you, thank you very much! I appreciate that wonderful comment about how complex my caves are. ^_^

You are welcome. The levels are so good also. The quest in general is great. I am not done with it, but right nor I give it a 9.9.

And _Balsac, I did loom at the spoiler map. It looked like it would just be a lot easier with the ladder, so unless the boomerang is needed to get the ladder, I am just gettimg the ladder first.

Also, DFW, from what I understand you and Peteo didn't really get along making the quest, as you both had different ideas on how it should be made. What kept you two from staying with it the whole way, rather than splitting up and each releasing your own versions of Lost Isle?

It is in fact needed to get to the ladder room. There's at least 2 rooms I can think of including the one right before the ladder which require it.

Dang! Any detailed direction on how to get to the boomerang? By the way, how many custom bosses are there in the game? They are so much more fun (and so much more frustrating) then the normal enemies.

Just go back to the spoiler map and be sure to have the candle. When you get to the cave, immediatly go left and light the torch, you should face a hydra(gleeok) and beyond it you'll get to an exit that leads to the boomerang chest. The thing is, I don't remember exactly which cave it is or I'd say it, but the spoiler map will tell you that.

Candel? Where would I get that helpful item? As you can see, I completly suck at trying to get items that are not hidden in dungeons when there aren't people in the quest saying stuff like, "I heard there is an item that let's you burn things hidden in the (insert candle's location here)."

That is in Dasa woods. You will notice that there is a magic prism in one of the screens there, shoot the wand at it and the blue plants will wither, go up one screen, killing the 3 dodongos, and the candle is up one more screen(kill the dodongos also allows you to collect a heart piece, if you want it, I didn't).

Well, I know you are crazy enough not to want more health, but I, on the other hand, do. Thanks for the help.

Hahaha, no problem man. Oh and I meant to answer your question about custom bosses, there are 5.

They are:
level 3 mini-boss, level 4 boss and mini-boss, orlach himself, and the death eater/catacombs boss, technically there's a doomish mini-boss that's sort of custom right before him, but it's an extremely simple fight. So maybe 6.
Um...keep checking back in with the skull dudes in the three open houses in the village. What they say will change after every major level. And they will subtly point you in the right direction. I do believe one of them mentions where the candle might be.

Yeah, we are 2 very different kinds of persons and 2 very different kinds of quest designers, and that caused tons of problems obviously. More problems than we predicted anyways.
There were times when DFW and I wanted to quit on this project because of our differences in opinions and she didn't like some of the changes I made and I didn't like some of her ideas at all. Somehow we managed to get this quest released after all the fights, hurt feelings etc. and boy am I proud we managed to release Lost Isle. I'm sure we both are more than satisfied to LI but would we ever make another quest together? Never again! That's a promise... 😞

I think the biggest issue came from the difference of our quest design philosophies. I am a guy who wants to make as massive and flashy quests as possible (lots of features, new ideas, custom bosses, cutscenes, items, all that so called advanced stuff) but DFW is a woman who wanted LI to be a more traditional kind of quest, a more "basic" kind of Zelda game.
But after many discussions and debates we managed to find a fine line so that we both would be satisfied, but even that didn't prevent all the other upcoming issues... 😉

I might as well just reveal some of our AIM conversations to show how difficult our co-operation sometimes was. If DFW feels like some of this stuff shouldn't be shown to public, she can just delete these quotes if she feels like it. But we did have pleasent conversations as well. here are some interesting topics we discussed:

-Sometime in the spring of 2006-
Topic - Talking about the bosses in the quest and me making suggestions about adding more custom bosses to the game than just the one we originally had in mind.

DarkFlameWolfie: the sky garden boss fight must happen outside.
Peteo: blah, ok then :P
DarkFlameWolfie: sorry. There are certain things I won't comrpomise on. The sky garden has a lot of things that I hold dear to its concept. unfrotunately, you just happen to be asking the wrong questions/requests tonight. lol
Peteo: oh well...
But the lv2 boss is a plain Digdogger and Digdoggers suck big time! :P sorry to sound like a big complainer tonight... Digdoggers are the lamest ZC bosses IMO. But I suppose you won't let me create a small and simple "Queen digdogger" custom boss to appear there... just to spice things up a bit...
DarkFlameWolfie: nah, sorry. :P
Peteo: oh well 😞 damn... after all the trouble the player goes thru, it's gonna be so anticlimatic to meet with... 2 dickdoggers... 😞
But thats only my opinion. I hope the players disagree...
DarkFlameWolfie: meh. Its the finla boss that counts. :-P that is what its all leading up to my dear. 😉
unless you somehow are miraculously going to make 5 full custom bosses, but not even I would put that job on you, that is simply too much.
Peteo: But with so many custom bosses starting to appear these days, people will get demanding.... ...and I have this "flaw" that I want the bosyses to be the best thing in the dungeon....
DarkFlameWolfie: that is true Petoe. But let's put it up to you then, what would you want? With all th work we're both doing and with all the artwork, graphics and dungeon work you're doing, do you really want to take on 5 full custom bosses? is that something you'd want to do?
Peteo: Well I'd love to add mroe custom bosses to the game but I was talking about 1 simple custom boss to spice up the meeting with digdoggers. :P Custom bosses don't have to be C-Dawg quality necessarily, but it's just that some of those bosses appear in every damn quest and eg the digdoggers are killed in a few seconds almost... 😉
I know I sound annoying with my requests but I'm so used to these advanced ZC tricks that I want to use them as much as possible. These dungeons deserve something better than a few stinking digdoggers...But oh well, I've never seen people complain about lack of custom bosses in your quests, so... heh, just ignore me :P
DarkFlameWolfie: exactly
DarkFlameWolfie: and when they find out that there is the final boss, they will be like: "now that was worth playing it through"
Peteo: I guess so. they wwill wet theit pants I hope
I'll just stop worrying then. But I WILL add some evil custom enemies (evil "superplants"😉 to L2 no matter what you say, lol 😃

-And some time later-
Peteo: But for the boss of L2, why oh why cant there be an angry "mother/father" Digdogger (a small and simple custom boss) which appears after you've beaten the 2 digdoggers and it floats around a bit and shoots fireballs at you... shouldnt take too much attention away from the ordinary bosses... :P
DarkFlameWolfie: no! >_< we want the final boss to have no lead-ins. The final boss shall be the only custom boss
Peteo: but L2 will be so disappointing -_-
DarkFlameWolfie: now, as a compromise, you can make statues on the sides that look like digdoggers shooting fireballs
Peteo: oh come on... some crappy statues are not good enough 😃
DarkFlameWolfie: but an actual boss itself, no
Peteo: argh! Youre killing me!! why? 😞
DarkFlameWolfie: sometimes Petoe, I think you're too ambitious for your own good, lol
Peteo:: wwhat ambitious is there to make the simplest custom boss on earth lol :P
DarkFlameWolfie: you make one custom boss, you gotta make it for them all. :P
the only exception is the final boss
Peteo: byt why????
DarkFlameWolfie: its just balancing
Peteo: but digdoggers suck arse! :P theyre not even real bosses in my book...
hey, what about... I know youre gonna say no like always :P but how about digdogger statues in the boss room? They seem like normal statues that shoot fireballs at you, but when the next stage comes, they wake up!?
DarkFlameWolfie: sounds good, here's the deal then:
first stage: 1 digdogger with 3 children
no fuss, no muss
second stage: 2 diggdoggers with 3 children each + whatever statue children wake up. That'd be a nightmare
Peteo: yess!!!
I can see it already. You cpome to a room with a digdogger and 2 digdogger statues. When you kill the lonely digdogger, I can make a really simple/short cutscene that shows how the 2 statues "becomes alive" and attack you. 😊
DarkFlameWolfie: fine

-In the end we agreed to add even more custom bosses in the quest, and I'm glad we did-

Issue - The original prize of the Master Dome was supposed to be the Red Mail, but to me it didn't make any sense to have a great armor at the end of the toughest level in the game. I mean, only good players will be able to beat the Master Dome, what would they do with a Red Mail? Well I suggested that we should take the Red Mail out of the Master Dome, but Wolfie refused by saying that it is just something she had in mind long time ago and didn't want to see changed. Here's how this issue started:

DarkFlameWolfie: My advice remains the same, the red mail stays in master dome. Make the final level with the blue mail in mind. Its really not that hard. Might want to tone down level 4 just a tad if level 5 is going to be easier. Its all about balance and patience with acheiving that balance.
Peteo: oh believe me, I understand your pain! That's why it is so hard for me even to suggest a change like this. it's a minor change IMO but I can see why it is such a big deal for you. But as I said, I will do what's best for the quest, and if I get the proper support from our testers... well...
DarkFlameWolfie: and if you get proper support?
Peteo: Then I will remove the Red Mail from MD. I have LI's best interests in mind.
DarkFlameWolfie: let's put it this way, the last two things I'm stamping my foot down on: the mirror robe challenge in the dream dungeon and the red mail as MD's prize. If you go changing either, you've lost mine support
Peteo: Wow... O_o why those 2 things have to be the 2 most important for you??? If those 2 things are changed the quest is ruined for you? Is that what youre saying? Uh oh...
DarkFlameWolfie: you have my answer, you don't have to understand it, because its clear that you can't. But there is my final answer.
Peteo: But I have so many ideas for the Red Mail that it cannot be left unused in LI!
DarkFlameWolfie: it isn't unused, its in the master dome. where else would you even think of putting it? There is nowhere else that'd make sense for it to be
Peteo: MD is just a side dungeon. I want it to be one of the main items in the quest. you just dont want to come up with a place where it would make sense!
DarkFlameWolfie: regardless, give me my last few requests. That's all I ask. you've got the rest of the quest to yourself anyway. Just give me these last few

-After this conversation I still decided to go ahead with my Red Mail removal from the Master Dome, and I had to do it behind DFW's back. When I told her about this nasty trick, she wasn't pleased-

Peteo: are you in a good mood today?
DarkFlameWolfie: I guess. :P
Peteo: great, though that may change... :P
DarkFlameWolfie: ????????????
I will kill you if you're bringing bad news.
Peteo: bad news? no no no, geez , calm down! O_O
everything's fine, the quest file is ok and everything... but I have something to tell you that you won't like I'm sure.
DarkFlameWolfie: so thus, bad news
Peteo: well, take a look, a picture tells more than a thousand words.. or so they say:
DarkFlameWolfie: O_o
*** DarkFlameWolfie has received breaking_news.bmp. *** (This screen shows that the new main item of MD is the Lv3 arrow)
DarkFlameWolfie: ...
Peteo: You know, the Red Tunic in MD wasn't one of your most important points in your last request list. So then I was getting all kinds of ideas of moving the tunic away from the MD, but when you heard my idea, you freaked out and didn't think rationally at all so I just decided to say "ok, forget it" to calm you down and then act behind your back.
DarkFlameWolfie: Peteo!
Peteo: those red tunic issues bothered me so much that I just had to change it, especially since you had no real valid reasons against it. I'm hoping you're now calm enough to understand that this is best for the game and LI is still pretty much the quest you wanted it to be. One small change like this doesn't change nor ruin the quest. The MD still has an awesome prize.
Really, making the Red Tunic available for everyone, especially for the not so skilled ones, you will thank me for this some day.
DarkFlameWolfie: ***** [cencored]
Peteo: Now I'm asking you to handle this situation a bit better than last time, okay? 😊
DarkFlameWolfie: I have several questions for you buddy.
DarkFlameWolfie: where is the red tunic now?
Peteo: wait, sending you a screen
*** DarkFlameWolfie has received zelda025.bmp. ***
DarkFlameWolfie: are you going to make the blue mail acquirable before level 3? would make it flow better in terms of how long we had the blue mail before getting the red.
Peteo: well...
DarkFlameWolfie: well if you're going to fook me over, might as well have it done my way so you can have the tunic
now for the blue mail, make it acquirable after level 2
Peteo: ookay...

-Apr 11th 2007-
Issue - We were having debates about some of the MIDIs in the quest. This one is about the final boss MIDI. Wolfie didn't like my MIDI suggestion at all, and I didn't like her's, but since I was the one who made the final boss I felt like I had the right to decide the MIDi for the battle. But after all the fights and debates with me, this apparently was the last straw and she actually did quit the project for a while:

DarkFlameWolfie: found any midis yet?
DarkFlameWolfie: <_<
Peteo: not any satisfying ones 😉
DarkFlameWolfie: okay, we still need to keep looking and have to agree on this.
its important we both are satisified with the last battle. ^_^
Peteo: oh Im sure you will be satisfied
DarkFlameWolfie: I am with the battle
but the music I mean.
Peteo: well music is a big an important part of the battle.
DarkFlameWolfie: exactly, which is why nothing has been sufficient yet
Peteo: and nothing will be as you dont like any of the midis I like and vice versa 😉
DarkFlameWolfie: yep
Peteo: so you just have to settle for whatever I choose Im afraid... :-/
DarkFlameWolfie: NO!!!
DarkFlameWolfie: Petoe, you already ripped apart my idea for the red mail
Peteo: well.. there's really no other way, dear :P
DarkFlameWolfie: give me this leverage to have us both agree on a song
Peteo: well, we dont agree on a song so thats a big problem >_<
DarkFlameWolfie: it is
but there is one out there that we both will like. we just have to find it and agree on it. :P
DarkFlameWolfie: despite what you may think, I'm still not at all happy with the red mail change, but I'll go along with it, esp. since you are changing the quest as I said to to accomodate for the red mail. But I'd rather it didn't happen. But I was yet again to withdraw support for the project and I'm about ready to do so again if you aren't willing to cooperate with me here on the music for the final battle. It has to be perfect for both of us, not just you. What sounds good to you is crappy to me. Regardless, we must agree, otherwise, you have lost me. Because its becoming quite apparent I lost control of this project long time ago.
Peteo: Well what did you expect when you went to USAF and left me with the rest of the quest? You know what. your attitude ****** sucks >_<
You seem so disinterested in testing the quest and instead of doing what you should be doing you just argue over these silly little things with me. Sometimes I get the feeling you are being so resistant to my ideas/midis/suggestions just because you wanna be like that. I dunno but this is getting goddamn annoying.
DarkFlameWolfie: no, there are simply certain aspects I want a little say over since we 'were' supposed to be working together on this. Can you count how many things I'ev truly complained on? It probably hasn't left the single digit mark. There are literally hundreds of over things I've never said a thing about because they were just fine. I merely bring up 5-6 big topics/discussions and all of a sudden you think I'm being resistant to everything. Its a lot less than you think.
DarkFlameWolfie: and these are things that are important to me, but apparently not to you it seems
Peteo: wrong, they are very important to me, that's why it hurts me to see you being so reluctant and unwilling to.... you know, accept my ideas.
DarkFlameWolfie: I do accept them, but you won't accept that this final boss music has to be perfect and we BOTH have to agree on it
DarkFlameWolfie: what's so resistant about that?!
Peteo: You have been very good at compromising and very understanding and nice before these last few months, I give you that. But lately you just have been a serious pain in the arse >_< I understand it might feel you are losing control of the quest, but what can I do about it? I am the one who is finalizing the quest and for me it would feel so wrong letting someone else pick the midi for a boss I AM building. I have found a perfect and fitting midi and thats what Im going to use. i know you disagree but you have to see the battle with that midi first before making any judgements...
DarkFlameWolfie: Youve lost me
DarkFlameWolfie: I'm gone
*** "DarkFlameWolfie" signed off at Wed Apr 11 16:20:41 2007.
Peteo: What?? Wait, don't go y
Peteo: And shes **** gone again!!1 ***** *****

-fortunately she came back later to help me finish the quest and we managed to sort out our differences and were together to release the quest 😊 -

I might post some more of our heated conversations if anyone cares.
