thanks, that will be of some help to me
I need a good SNES tile editor and have had no luck finding one so far. Any ideas?
um, learn how to either hex edit or write a program?
there's not any (if there is any) program that can do that (to my knowledge).
Try over at Zophar's Domain

I meant graphics/pallete editing, not actual programming.
unfortunatly, there's not that many, but go to zophar.net to see if there is one
I'm looking for a utility that will let me hack super mario advance 4 - super mario 3. You would think its essentially the same thing as SMB3, but I don't have to extensive of knowledge on how a game is compiled. Basically, the editiors I have for SMB3 don't work on it, has anyone done work in this direction, or is there a way to overcome problems with using NES editors on a GBA rom?
I'd guess no NES editor would work on a GBA game. They're fairly different systems. Most conversions involved at least some code rewrites- editors would require a near-total rewrite to work correctly. If there aren't any SMA4 editors already released, I'm afraid you're probably out of luck.
Well.. I assumed, since m3i works on the super NES rom for SMAS, I thought maybe someone spent some small amount of time to make it, or any other editor, compatable with SMA4. Apparently not, I can't find anything.
The editor has to be updated even if the level data format is exactly the same as the position of level data will have changed. You could contact the author of a SMB3 editor or look at their forum or website to find out about SMA4 support.
For some odd reason, video will not display when I try running Project 64 or 1964; what can I do to get it working
I'm suscribed to this thread, sue me
What kind of video card do you have? Do you have Direct X 9.0b or higher? It's most likely a video driver/software related issue.
Unrelated (what is in this thread?) - does anyone know of any decent Sonic 3/Sonic & Knuckles/Sonic 3 & Knuckles editors? I went through a phase of trying to essentially create a whole new Sonic game about a year ago, but never got very far. Having played them on the Sonic Mega Collection, I feel like giving it another go. Any ideas?
There is one editor but it's commercial. However the level format data is freely available on some websites. Try google.

Could you define 'Level Format Data'? You've kinda thrown me with that statement. (This from the guy who has created a TC of the original Prince of Persia. Smooooooooth.)
I have tried googling, but I just wanted to see if there were any programs you guys would recommend. Just curious, was all.
By Level Format Data, I mean a page with detailed information on to where and how levels are stored in the ROM, so that you can edit them. The levels ultimately have some sort of "format" that if you understand, you can edit. Zophar.net under facelifting utilitys should have the Sonic editor that you must pay to register.

Direct X7, it's some kind of generic intregated card, I'll have to check the chipset...
That is why then. The latest PJ64 definitely requires DX 8.0 or higher, possibly 9.0.
Emulation and ROMs may be illegal but, who really cares we always do it.
Like I am allergict to cats but I still go near cats and who's to stop me right?
So I download ROMs myself only NES and SNES but hey they're fun and hey Emulation and ROMs are the only known way for me and other people who want rare games to get them such as Lufia 2, DW 3, DW 4 etc. so, ROMs may be the only way I can get rare NES and SNES games especially RPGs.
Yeah, that's why I do it as well - if I don't download them, I'd never get to play them at all. Emulation rules.
Of course, with the Revolution's back catalogue coming, there's every chance that we won't need to download some of them. It's a good opportunity for Nintendo to make some money (they've stated that they'll charge for the games we play, although not much!) while helping people to relieve classics, and I'm all for it. It will, however, mean that I'll have to
A) Delete pretty much all my ROMs and
B) have to buy a million flash cards
But it's a small price (well, not for the flash cards!) and I'm willing to pay it.
If it uses an SD type card, all the ROMs you could download would be able to fit on rather cheap cards easily. You could even spend maybe 60$ or so and get a 1gig card.
There is nothing wrong with emulation, however downloading ROMs is questionable. However if you dump your own games, there is nothing wrong with that in many countries including the USA.
Yeah, but I'd fill up those cards in no time at all. Even if I never play the games, I'll think "Oh, I'd enjoy that" and buy/download it. Businesses love people like me.
Even if they aren't compressed, unless you were downloading a ton of N64 games, it's still pretty hard to fill up a good amount of space since they won't have a selection equal to the entire library for NES SNES and N64.
I recently saw a website with CPS-3 roms (Red Earth/Warzard, SFIII, etc.) for download. Has the CPS-3 been emulated?
No, but many systems that aren't emulated have the ROM dumps available before hand. Afterall, if you don't have the ROMs, you're never going to be able to emulate it. Right now the main thing holding back CPS3 progress is undoubtably encryption.

heck, I've seen some NEOGEO stuff that hasn't been fully decrypted; frankly, it's a pain in the ass to find the files needed to replace the encrypted part of the roms...

Just to clarify this... I meant easy-to-use tools like SonEd & stuff. Anyone got any ideas?
And, on a completely different emulation topic, does anyone know if/how the Nintendo DS & PSP can/will be emulated on PC?
Dr. Weird, NeoGeo roms aredecrypted on the fly. There is no reason to decrypt the roms or replace the encrypted roms with bootleg roms. MAME as well as Kawaks, and Final Burn Alpha, even Nebula all decrypt the graphics on the fly.
Darth, there is only that one that I know of, the SonED thing. About DS and PSP, there are emulators already out, but you must understand how emulation works. These systems are only partially emulated, and are ussually unoptimized. That translates to, all games are virtually unplayable.
The only system that was ever emulated well when it was still living was NeoGeo, and perhaps PSX. Ussually a system is dead from the market before it's emulated well, or it's been out awhile (GBA). Infact GBA is probably the last system of that kind. One that was able to be emulated very well so early on. GBA had no encryption, Nintendo DS does. Although it's already been hacked fyi.
Infact there are NES and SNES emulators out now for DS. And there is a GB/GBC emulator in the works. PSP is hacked too, with ports of PC emulators like Nester and Snes9X, and Dgen too I think.
Thanks, just wondered. I'll have to look into that DS SNES emulator when I eventually get one.
