Pineconn wrote:How exactly did PureZC get started? Was it just a fan site (i.e. Wild Bill's, I presume)?
Kinda, yeah. WB Started it in May 2002, and a few others from this community tagged along. Sort the PZC Members List by descending date to see who was interested first.

Pineconn wrote:The reason I've never become a member at PureZC is that I never got a conformation e-mail after signing up in June of 2005. But now I'm attached to AGN. 😛
Was the opposite for me. Took 24 hours for me to get my AGN E-mail. Pure was smaller, and more immediate.

GET ADBLOCK PLUS AND BLOCK THE ADs

Thats stops most of them and get a good anity vries like norten inter security at about 20 (3linces) witch convetes into about $40 and that gets rid of everything pure dumps on your computer.

wells that what i have to say

Does having Firefox mean I won't get them automatically? Or do I have to actively do something to stop it? I hadn't noticed anything personally but I can't say I've been looking.

Also, I'm not paying 20 to be able to view PureZC.

If it bothers you so much, send an E-Mail to AdBrite and tell them that you, a single person on the internet, doesn't like how their hyperlinks contain trojans. "Oh, hi. We really care." It's not WildBill's fault that you're too damned lazy to mess with your browser settings but you'll take the time to write out a post blaming PureZC for your own stupidity.

Bite me.

Same. I've never used IE to browse Pure, but only because I have Firefox already, which has had Tabbed Browsing long before IE 7 came out, which is why I'd gotten so used to it. For some people, you can stop the ads entirely by doing what Koopa and others suggested above. It's really not difficult at all, and I can't really see any reason not to do it, other than the ever-odd moral reason. (I find that solving the problem myself or with others rather than wanting it to go away by belief really helps solve the problem. 😛 )

Neither am I, and I've never gotten anything malicious or otherwise from 'em on ANY of the many computers I've been browsing them from. You can get Lavasoft Ad-Aware and AVG Antivirus. Google 'em. Both are free, (Despite a trial version being evident, there is very much a free version of at least AVG, and any Lavasoft Ad-Aware you find on Lavasoft's site is quite functional regardless of being software or not. I haven't paid for either, and both work just fine for all these years.) and work quite well.

... Then again, ... I really am perplexed as to why I myself have never gotten any. Are these ads region-specific or something like that? 😮dd:

That wouldn't wonder me when a while ago everybody was complaining about the porn adds I had totally different adds 😉
But I understood from a posting earlier in this thread that it wasn't coming from the adds but from a posting in DS

Oldschool wrote:the Trojan came from a DS topic containing a "Rick Roll'd" gag. The user was dealt with and the topic has been locked away.

I'm sure it's not the DS topic. I doubt Freedom reads those.

From the sound of it, maybe only those with IE are susceptible to the ads. Well, Firefox does have a better blocker on it. Also no one should have to download or install any kind of pop-up or ad removal. Just do what Koopa or I suggested and you should be fine.

..
*Warning* This link will venture your computer into the heart of pureZC! Click at your own risk! XD
...
Here's one you can reply in.(That is, if your computer doesn't explode from the swarm of spam and ads first,) 😛

I was thinking the same thing. 😛 Maybe it's IE.

...

This thread gives Pure far worse of a reputation than it deserves. :-z People are ratting on it because they either don't know how to or can't be bothered to set up their browsers right, or they just ignore the big warning "Internet Explorer users are urged to user another browser" at the top of the main page. Warnings are there for a reason. Just because you don't think it's right doesn't mean everyone must conform to you. You get what you pay for.

EDIT: Ew. I spelled "browsers" as bowser's"

I use IE7 to view PureZC. I have the ad blocking enabled for IE and I also have a firewall program that runs in the background as some added protection as well. I typically don't see the ads at all or at least if I do, they don't cause any problems.

Ah, then IE can also solve the issue as well.

I do wish that the thread title could be changed as well. It feels like persecution, relative to the amount of other people who aren't having any problems with it at all. It's a large ratio. Many of those who have experienced these have already long since solved their problems, and there's no sense to say "STAY AWAY LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!" if they're so easily solved, as many people can vouch.

Well, I was more along the lines of saying something like; You don't need to download or install extra gadgets and gizerygoos or thingamadads 😛 to veiw web pages that that may have harmful content if you don't want to. I have absolutely no pop-up blocker, no updated bowser (IE 6) 😉 , and no spyware removal, yet I am free to visit purezc anytime I want. It just takes a second to set a few things in your browser toolbar. Koopa has a good explanation of this somewhere.

It's up to that person though. There's of coarse no real reason to not go to purezc. If you happen to get pop-ups, then you can block the scripts, one way or another. I mean, I was just at purezc a minute ago, I even just downloaded some stuff. It's always better that people know how to handle these problems rather than just ignore them.

I would also add that I get absolutely ZERO AD'S AND POP-UPS. Not from purezc...not from anywhere.

I assure you people, your suspicions are COMPLETELY unfounded. You say PureZC is a bad place because you got a Trojan from it? Where do you think it came from? The ads, of course. You seem to admit this, but why do you not wish to take the steps to stop them? You have Firefox. It's as easy as get Free AdBlock Plus, set the ads to Blocked, and you're done. As a certain commercial I hate says (lol), "Why are you making this difficult? It's easy!" I assure you, PureZC is PERFECTLY SAFE! It's just the ads that aren't! Oh yes, and WildBill has a VERY good reason for not doing anything- He's got a LIFE. And it's TERRIBLE right now. Cut him a little slack, please. 😞

Alright, this is getting nowhere. Pure is not a bad place or trying to harm your computer in any way, BUT, People have a right to be forewarned of any possible threat to their property. Computers are expensive...no? So, I removed those links, but I'm quoting some stuff out of it. If anyone has any objections then feel free to delete this post themselves or whatnot.

Just add a ? at the end 😛

WARNING; PureZC will infest your computer?

How to remove the ads/popups

Firefox users:
1. Get Adblock plus.
2. Go to tools/Adblock plus.
3. Click "add filter" and enter *.adbrite.com/* in the box.
Note: I use firefox, I come here almost every day and I haven't seen a single popup yet. It really works!

Opera users:
1. Go to tools/preferences and open the advanced tab.
2. Click on "content" then on the "blocked content" button that appears.
3. Add *.adbrite.com/* to the blocked sites.

IE users:
1. Go to tools/internet options. Choose the security tab.
2. Click on the "restricted sites" icon then on "sites..."
3. add adbrite.com to the list.
4. Back in the first dialog box, click "custom level" on the bottom.
5. Set all "scripting" and "download" options to "disabled"
NOTE: I haven't tested this out fully yet, if someone can confirm this or refute it I'd be gald to know.

Congratulations, you've just banned the ad site from your browser.

It works peeps.

If WildBill had his way, AdBrite would be gone, considering all the BS they're putting him through. Right now, he's putting in a Facebook application to gain revenue for the site. It's already pulling in a few handy pennies in its earliest hours. He's quite the coder.

Until you get into his head, you can only go by what you see. We can all understand that. How eager are you guys to listen to anything or anyone that says contrary however?

GG Gleeok. :highfive:

What is this political correctness in favor of people launching trojans now?
Change the name of the thread your ass, My system has caught and blocked 3 trojans on PureZC, SO THEY ARE THERE AND BEING DISTRIBUTED FROM THERE, and people have the right to be warned.

If you believe it's hurts PureZC's holy name then the answer is simple, get rid of the adds causing the problem, don't expect people who are aware of the problem to remain silent.

It's in chat where and when you're not there. Humans don't have clairvoyance.

... Or logs. :waggle: [J/K] Just pullin' yer chain.

I'd rather not get his personal life involved in this, but the reason he's delayed is most likely a mental and emotional one. He's unmotivated. It shows in the chat. Domestic problems, you know.

There's that, but I don't really see how that relates to the fact that his application is already on Facebook, generating revenue.

... But I'm sure we're all repeating ourselves, aren't we.

... Nevermind...

If possible, could I please get a moderator to delete this post, as well as my previous two posts from this thread?

...>_> then say that the ADS on PZC will virus your computer.

...It's not like the site itself is going "lol oh hay guys, letz viruz teh compooters of all teh noobz hoo vizit!"

So blame the ads, not the site. It's not like the staff there are deliberately leaving the ads there. If it's been taking a long time, then pehaps it's because Wild bill has a life to live, and cna't afford to spare the time to administrate the site?

:P He's not like a lot of us who can just sit on our asses all day and post,.

WB's facebook application appears to be making a tidy sum of money. Moreso than what the ads are doing now. We'll see what the near future holds. The ads may be pretty much gone sooner or later.

If you didn't make it sound like PureZC is a breeding ground for Trojans, we'd understand where you're coming from. But you're just being irrational. We know about the trojans, we know how to get by them. There are viruses and trojans everywhere. It's the internet. There will always be malware and such as long as it exists. Yeah, you've let us know about a situation there but you went the wrong way about it. Browsing PureZC will not cause your system serious harm.

Hey, if it weren't for purezc where would I go to randomly rant now and again? 😉

edit: In fact, I think i'm about due for one any day now. It sure has been a shitty week....

Freedom wrote:I shouldn't have to set my machine up to conform to PureZC, PureZC should conform to my machine.

you are rebelling against PureZC if you block the ad's, not conforming to it >.> if you were to conform to it you would need to let the viruses take over and keep looking at there pretty ad's.

Also I'd like to point out that before I completely blocked them it would take sometimes upwards to a minute for pages to load. Now it's pretty much instantanous. Not just on pure, but everywhere. Youd be suprised just how much those fucking ads will slow down your computer. Seriously.

That's just stupid as hell.
It's PureZC HOSTING the adds, not the adds hosting PureZC.
People don't go there for adbrite, they go there for Zelda Classic and get hammered with adbrite.
Wildbill the owner of PureZC allowed adbrite in, therefore that makes it PUREZC'S Fault.

As long as adbrite continues to be hosted on PureZC then Purezc will continue to be a breeding ground for trojans.
It STOPS when wildbill puts a stop to it.

Now lets hear some more of; "it's the guns fault, it's not the persons fault"
