WARNING
PureZC will infest your computer, stay clear!
I stopped going there over a month ago because it tried to put a Trojan on my machine, but went there yesterday and today for Castle Haunt III and Pure ZC placed 2 Trojans on my machine this morning.
I suggest everyone stay away from that site.
Are you completely sure it's from them? I guess it doesn't really matter anyway because the only time I go there is when AGN is down.
Are you using a decent browser or Internet Explorer? You won't get a "trojan" from going to a website with a decent browser.
I haven't had any problems, but non-the-less, thanks for the heads up. 😃
Are you sure its not from the porn that you have up in the other tabs/windows, and not actually PureZC?
Every once in a while (this was a bit ago, I've not been there lately), there would be a pop-up and it would try to install software. I'm not sure if WildBill got a handle on it or not, but it wouldn't surprise me if what Freedom says is true.
This by no means is an attempt to stop visitors from going to PureZC, but if anything like Freedom or I said happens, be sure to notify a staff member from there.
It's the adds there doing it, and they know about it.
Koopa can confirm this.
I'm using Firefox and my AVG catches the Trojans, but just because my system catches them doesn't mean there shouldn't be concern for others, who's systems might not catch these.

Nah....
I always do all my porn viewing on Saturday night.
I don't know..... just something about that word "Saturday" that always makes me sooooo horny.
Doesn't it just make you warm on the inside and wet on the outside all over, just saying that word?
cum-on say it... SATURDAY!
oooh that gives me goosepimples.
I haven't been to PureZC in a long time, so I decided to check in. But this is what I got. How nice.

That's exactly what I'm talking about.
the Trojan came from a DS topic containing a "Rick Roll'd" gag. The user was dealt with and the topic has been locked away.
Ha ha....Rick Rolled...
I hardly ever go to PureZC. I did a week ago, but it was fine. Like phattonez, I really only go there when AGN is down. I'm gonna go check it out though.

That was meant to be a joke. But hey, you don't make fun of my hobbies, why should I make fun of yours? 😉
I've never, ever gotten anything, and my system has always been completely clean and consistently updated. I just blocked the ads, and have been fine. Even when not blocked, the ads don't give me anything whatsoever.
But then again, I guess even random number generators for ads can come up with a 000 thousands of times in a row, eh? :-/
EDIT: I lol'd, Freedom.
Pineconn, get a better ISP =/ lol
I haven't seen any of 'those' ads for a number of months now.
It doesn't suprise me that that's still going on. Has been since June. I bitched at them way back in July about it, where that thread was closed soon after. Fucking figures. I seldom stop by there exept to look at the scripting forum anyway. Freedom, if you've got IE like me, you have to manually disable downloads and scripting from purezc and adbrite under internet options->security.

You mean that AOL is crappy? 😱 What? Nonsense!
(Oh wow, that smiley creeps me out.)
No. AoL isn't bad because it's crappy; It's bad because it's pretty much a Trojan Horse. You have to format your hard drive to wipe it from your computer.
Quite often visiting PureZC will close my browser window, but I've never gotten an infection from their ads.

That's true. AOL takes control of my computer, too, when I start my computer, when AOL encounters a problem, and when AOL attempts to fix the problem by itself (i.e., it takes control of my mouse and clicks on hotspots all over my computer).
I need the essence of anti-AOL.

First off it's total bullshit how you are going to say stay away from the site. Second while I browsed there I haven't got a trojan horse yet. Maybe once in a great while a popup. But blaming PZC for a trojan? Now come on. I think if something like this would happen, staff would take care of it. Also this isn't AGN related at all. Hate to be a prick about this but yeah. Now I know PZC isn't all great. One thing I hate how it has it's IE compatability issue. Ends up locking my browser. Then again I decided to switch to safari instead of ie. But this is all just my two cents.
exactly, this is one major reason why ad blocking extensions/add-ons/plugins are popular... advertisements are usually the biggest reason for infections when browsing the net (not including downloading/running a program from the net) and there are a few A/V companies catching on like TrendMicro, Nortons (i hear nortons sucks and it doesn't surprise me considering how gay systemworks 2006 is in comparison to 2004) etc. that also will block advertising/websites but they are aimed at sites that definably contain malicious code.
its best to block as many ad's as you can because you can never be sure which will infect your pc >.>
PureZC uses AdBrite. It has holes in it, like anything does. Less QQ please.
Sean wrote: I think if something like this would happen, staff would take care of it.
Well that's the problem, they haven't taken care of it. It's been six months now and already been established as fact that their ads contain malicious content, including trojans. While many of us have up to date virus protection and are smart enough to set our security options accordingly, what about little Jimmy zelda newbie that goes on a tileset downloading frenzy.
Poor little Jimmy. 😛
Of coarse on the offchance that purezc staff really doesn't know, *cough* I will pm them next time I stop by. 😉
Freedom - you're using Win 98 with IE, right ?
You could try IP/DNS-blocking adbrite with your hosts file.
Edit : put this in the hosts file
127.0.0.1 adbrite.com
127.0.0.1 ads.adbrite.com
No, I'm using Firefox.
I shouldn't have to set my machine up to conform to PureZC, PureZC should conform to my machine.
I went through that once already and put Firefox on there.
The adds are putting crap on peoples computers and they should go.
It seems the few pennies those adds bring are more important to wildbill then the people that use the site, that's his choice.
MasterSwordUltima wrote:That was meant to be a joke. But hey, you don't make fun of my hobbies, why should I make fun of yours? 😉
My response was supposed to be a joke too, you couldn't tell?
Everyone knows I'm REALLY partial to Friday.

WB is actually a little bit hard to catch these days, (And that's really quite the understatement, I'm sad to say.) and while Pure appears to endure, it's only because WB did one of those "Create it and let it be" sorts of things, while the rest of the staff (I.e. those
without the ability to manage the page.) don't own the forums. They just manage them. Not the forum software either.
So a few things:
- AdBrite *claims* that there are no such malicious ads. I've never gotten any, ads blocked nor unblocked. You guys are. WTF is going on?
- Yahoo denied Pure for ad service.
- Pure used to have AdSense, (Complete with evil-free ads.) but people kept saying "Click the ads!" in its various forms despite that it was mentioned in the rules (When it was relevant) that you shouldn't, and they removed the service because the site kept breaking the terms by saying click the ads. So yeah, that was the people's contribution toward this.
Now please, for the love of God, don't shoot the messenger nor put him up for trial...
EDIT: And humor is important, and part of a balanced breakfast. Too bad it's dinner now.
How exactly did PureZC get started? Was it just a fan site (i.e. Wild Bill's, I presume)?
The reason I've never become a member at PureZC is that I never got a conformation e-mail after signing up in June of 2005. But now I'm attached to AGN. 😛
Luckly I havnt been to PureZC yet. 😊
oh, and Freedom, I have to quote that... :P
