Yeah, see, my parents know I'm smart, so if I'm getting good grades, i.e Bs in Honors level classes, they know I'm not doing any work. They say that if I actually tried I could get As, to which my response is "Yes, but I'd rather spend my time the way I want, instead of doing quite frankly, pointless homework".
So, yeah, Bs for me
So...
Just do the extra work to get As then. I know if I started getting Bs, my mom would ground me from all forms of electronic gaming and comunication instantly.
phattonez wrote:My parents were the "do whatever you want as long as you don't act retarded or just completely disrespectful." It was pretty easy-going, but then again, they didn't like us slacking off too much. They didn't make us do homework as long as we got a good grade at the end of the quarter. We were all pretty smart for high school so it really was all pretty easy.
Which is pretty much the perfect parent. But some parents are too ignorant and uncaring when their kids go out, which is when the kids do bad things and all that jazz. The only thing I can say is HIPPIES.
...I remember when I used to post meaningfully. I wonder what happened to that?

AGN changed. Now most of the posts are just plain silly. :googly:
We're just getting lazy and more lax. It's more of a tight-knit community than what it was last year.
So being told that you can't play video games during the week is considered overbearing? My parents did that to me too when I was younger and looking back I am very thankful for it. I was able to concentrate on school and as a result did extremely well. I doubt I would have done all my work and studied for school if I was allowed to play games during the week since I was way to into them.
I guess some kids need that. I got all A's and I could play video games whenever I wanted to. No specific rules of what I could or could not do but I would have been punished if I behaved inappropriately or disrespectfully I suppose. I just never wanted to. *shrugs*
It's not that not allowing kids to not play video games is overbearing, it's that it's usually typical of overbearing parents.
This is a very nice week of school. The sophomorons have to take OGTs (Ohio Graduation Tests - an effect of No Child Left Behind) from 7:30 to 10:00. Therefore, everyone else is allowed to arrive at school at 10:00, and we have shortened periods for the rest of the day (24 minutes instead of 47). It's perfect!
On a side note, somebody should make a flow chart on every topic discussed in this thread.

Only you would have the time for that.
On a related note, I have no more chem classes. So that means I have one class on Wednesday and it starts at 2. Now I have to think of what to do with all that time, and I think I know what I'm going to do . . . unfortunately that activity is study.
Hm.... Seems like perfect time for you to make a nice little flow chart of this thread. 😊
Haha, hell no. I have my chem and my ls grades that really need to go up. That means I really have to study for these finals. I'm not gonna have any time.
Ugh, finals week. Every single quarter I've been at UCLA (this is the 5th, not counting summer classes) I've had a Friday final. It's the worst... usually most people are gone and I'm still studying. It's no different this quarter, my last final ends at 3 pm on Friday. Oh well, in Spring I'm done on Thursday for once 😛
I'm gonna be done on Thursday again, but this time it ends at 9:30, that's PM. I have a Sunday final for chem and an easy Philosophy final on Monday that should take an hour at the most really.

>_> Isn't that a LITTLE harsh? My parents just expected me to get at least a C (or above 75%). They only got pissed if I was failing anything (which I only did in college. ...stupid Trail hiking.)

And things with high risks I tend not to be too interested in anyway, so it works out.
Same here. I only bend the rules when I KNOW I can get away with them. I.E: Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons I have off. I therefore take advantage of this by playing some console games for a bit (without having one of my parents give me the Evil Eye as I play).
So does anybody have an idea why I physically can't sleep in? Really, I can't sleep past 9am, no matter what time I go to sleep.
Maybe your internal "clock" has programmed itself to wake you up without fail at that time?
and WOOT! I got my DS lite back yesterday! 😃 Brand new DS lite, actually. Nintendo is awesome.
...and I only sent it on friday. Purolator ships FAST. 😮
Wow, Nintendo is quick at that.
What did you do to your DS?
>_> I just snapped it shut too often, causing a crack on the inside, middle hinge. It didn't bother me until the crack suddenly started to open really wide whenever I opened my DS.
Needless to say, I'm being VERY careful with my new one.
My younger brother has an original DS that is literally falling apart. The hinges are almost broken, and the top screen is barely connected to to the bottom screen.
Yeah, and I'm sure that will last . . . isn't there a saying about habits?
(That they run in the family?)
I can't write a single MIDI anymore... I need vibrato, I need slurs, I need crescendos. I've yet to come across a single program that would let me do that in a MIDI.
Yeah, MIDI's suck for any serious composition. Possibly you could fake crescendos and vibrato with multiple overlapping tracks...? Maybe write some regular songs on something like Garage Band to get it out of your system, the go back to MIDI's.
And Organic Chemistry is my new favorite class. 😊

Your body is so used to getting up at 9 AM. Stay up for 48 hours and you can reset it. You could also get up early for a couple weeks- really early, like 4 AM.

I hope that you've done more than naming and shapes.
Depends on how you define that. We're just finishing up a week on Alkanes with Cyclo-hexane and it's various conformations and isomers. Equatoral vs. Axial, Chair formation and all that. And for some reason we've been running a lab on Heat Capacity the last couple days as well.
Hmmm, I guess that would be just naming and shapes. But as soon as we finish structures of the basic types. (Alkanes, Alkenes, Ketones, etc) we're going to work on properties and reactions.
Plus the girl who I like is in the class, we're good friends, and she just broke up with her boyfriend and has been talking to me about it a lot, so I'm hopeful.
Or she just sees you as a friend . . .
But anyway, I still have two quarters of O Chem to go, so tell me how it is. I've only done naming and such right now, so it's been pretty simple.

I can't write a single MIDI anymore either. I've yet to come across a single program that will write one for me. 😃

Organic Chemistry sounds fun. I love science classes. Isn't science the best school sunject? *Waits for everyone to call me crazy*
Actually, that's where it gets interesting, because she admitted that she likes me, but between her ex and just wanting a break for a while, she's going to "ignore" it. So I'll give it some time.
