All I can say is, Nintendo is freaking SMART. People will buy Revolution for this alone. All of those games for free. That is amazing. Plus more from 3rd parties as well (which may or may not be free.. it sounds like 3rd parties may charge for their old titles but it's all up to them). What really impresses me is the inclusion of obscure crap like the BS games (BS Zelda!!) and the 64DD games. We might finally freaking see stuff like Mario Artist here! I mean, even with pc emulation some of that crap is hard to come by. I'm not sure I've even seen emulated 64DD stuff though I havn't exactly looked for it. I do wonder if the N64 stuff will be enhanced at all. By which I mean they will jack up the resolution. It's hard to say as that kind of uglifies some games (because they were not designed at that rez.. thus textures are blocky, etc). Maybe it will be an optional setting or something. Something like that would be nice though.
In any case, this is cool as hell. I thought for sure even Nintendo's stuff would have to be payed for (like $5 a game or something). This is very nice.
All I can say is HOLY SHIT - that is awesome. Punch Out! Goldeneye 007! Paper Mario! (which I've wanted to play having played the Gamecube one!)
Nice find Warlock. I had read that Nintendo was going to offer some of it's 1st party titles for free, but I didn't think they'd offer them all for free. Now all we need is for some other companies to sign on such as Square-Enix, Capcom, and Konami (and others). They probably won't offer them for free, but I'd be willing to pay for a little Chrono Trigger and Mega-Man 3 on The Revolution. 😃
EDIT: Both sites you linked list a japanese magazine as the source of this info, so we may not necessarily see all those rare games here in the US (heck, I'm sure many of them haven't even been translated into english yet - like Animal Forest)
Wow, that's so awesome!
I'm not even a giant nintendo fan, but now I'm definately getting a revolution. Wow, I can't wait!
I'm excited to play those titles on a TV instead of a craptastic emulator. Also, I've never even played Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask. This is really bad ass. Yay!😊

Yeah, there is stuff like Paper Mario I have been wanting to try for ages now too. And of course while NES and SNES stuff is easy to grab on an emulator, N64 stuff is extremely less so, assuming it even works. I havn't tried to play any emulated N64 stuff in a few years, but I doubt much has changed. I rememeber certain games didn't emulate too well and some didn't work at all (I don't think at the time there was a real *good* working copy of Majora's Mask for example because of I believe the use of the 4mb expansion thing screwed something up in emluators). Oh, and plus, rumble! 😃 Can't emulate the rumble pack on a PC 😊
This is ALSO good news for people who would also enjoy playing the games on the original system. People will now sell their nintendos for a lot cheaper.
Or the will in 2006.
The only thing I'm wondering...where will the games be stored? Will you have unlimited space? Will there only be space for 5 games at a time?

Well the memory cards are supposed to be 512mb+. That's enough for pretty much every NES title on that list at least. Maybe it will have a little internal hard drive though. Who knows.

I was wondering why Final Fantasy was listed.
I wonder how many games won't make it? I doubt Devil World will come over.
Don't quote me on this, but I think the first Final Fantasy was published by Nintendo.
I would have been sold if this were true, but we can still hope.
I knew they were putting out some old titles that could cost a tiny bit of money ($2 maybe?) BUT GOD DAMN!!!! That totally rules!! =D

The Nintendo Revolution will undoubtablely use emulation to run any older titles. Yes, it's on the TV which is nice, but I can already do this with my modded Xbox. 😉
Yeah, it sounds like they will not be 100% free but there may be ways to get them free:
http://cube.ign.com/articles/622/622870p1.html?fromint=1
They mention stuff like free game downloads for buying revolution games or for a limited time and stuff.
Also:
The downloads will, as previously announced, be stored in flash memory. You'll be able to store games in the 512 megabytes built into the system, but should this fill up, you can transfer your downloads to an SD memory card and use your computer to manage the files. Iwata didn't elaborate, but did state that copy protection is in place (so don't expect to simply send downloaded game copies to your friends by e-mail).Nintendo's use of flash memory rather than a hard disk was very much intentional. The company believes that kids as young as five years old will use the Revolution and could damage a built-in hard disk. Additionally, Iwata points to longevity, reliability and cost as being part of the decision to go with flash.
The internal flash memory is being used for a few areas besides the download of game classics. You'll be able to save games to the flash area, update the Revolution's firmware (adding new features along the way, presumably) and download game demos! That's right, Revolution game demos, downloaded right to your Revolution hardware.
A quick question, what is BS and N64 DD?
Also, do you know if the hook up to the net is going to be free or not?

Actually I played through the whole of Majora's Mask on the emulator without any big problems. The only area where it crashed on me was the deku shrub property sidequest, for some reason the one in the bay would always lock up. But since you didn't *need* to do it, it wasn't a huge deal.

You're actually right about that. I've had no interest in Revolution up to this point, but this has gotten my attention. I still don't think I'll be buying a next generation console, but if I did it'd probably be this. Mind you my buying it would have nothing to do with and indeed inspite of Nintendo's current gaming direction.

Yeah I am talking about a few years ago though. They probably hammered out the problems since then. In any case, it wasn't perfect like you said with that crash.
Archibaldo wrote:A quick question, what is BS and N64 DD?Also, do you know if the hook up to the net is going to be free or not?
BS is Bandai Satellaview, an addon to the SNES that allowed users in Japan to download games to their system and play. There were many BS games; in addition to the ones listed, there were 2 Zelda games, one of which was A Link to the Past (which was later brought to the actual SNES, if I have my order of events right). The other was called The Ancient Stone Tablets or something along those lines and had voice acting and such, but was never released on cart. THAT would be something I'd definitely want to play on Revolution.
64DD was the ill-fated N64 Disk Drive add-on that wound up having a very sparse amount of software. There's Sim City 64, Doshin the Giant, the Doshin Expansion I can't remember the name of, a Golf game I can't remember the name of, the F-Zero X Expansion which included a track builder, and the Mario Artist games (I thought there were only 4 that managed to be completed, but this lists 5). It could connect to the Internet via the Randnet online service and was to be the first truly online-enabled system (the Famicom and Super Famicom had some online capabilities with addons, I think, but not like this), but failed miserably due to many delays. The available software isn't all that great, either, though the Golf game and the F-Zero expansion are both supposed to be pretty good.
And yes, the Revolution online service will be free. You may have to pay for playing third party games online (that's up to them, not Nintendo), but all first party games will be completely free online.
Games from that List i will download:
1) Super Mario Kart

Heres yet another quote to go along with PlanetGamecube, and IGN, this being from Gamespot.
Iwata also talked a bit more about the Revolution's capability to download and play games from Nintendo's previous consoles, called the Virtual Console system. First off, he shot down speculation that all first-party Nintendo games will be downloadable for free. "There's rumors floating on the Internet that the Virtual Console will be available for play for free, but we have no plans to distribute [the games] without charge."
Obviously, there isn't any finalized plans, so you can't really say it will be free or not.
You misunderstood me; I should have made myself more clear. I was referring to Revolution games, not old games, in response to his question of "Also, do you know if the hook up to the net is going to be free or not?" Revolution will connect to the Internet over a wireless internet connection for free and will allow you to play first-party Revolution games online without pay. As for old games, you're right; they've not stated whether it will cost a little bit of money or will be absolutely free.
Ah, yes. Sorry. The whole topic was about the virtual console, I misunderstood
Well, even if they aren't totally free, I can't see Nintendo charging more than maybe an iTunes-esque 99 cents for an NES game... we're talking about under one megayte of transferred data. Regardless, if Nintendo DOES decide to charge, I highly doubt it will be expensive at all. All I can say is, DAMN.
I'm not so sure that they will be all that cheap. Remember, Nintendo wasn't afraid to slap a $20 price tag on its Classic NES Series. They still do need to make a profit, although most of what it makes on its Virtual Console will be pure profit.
I think people would be more willing to pay 20$ for a cartridge you can hold in your hand than a digital file that could be easily lost.
Those games are not free, but it may be low at price. Miyamoto and Iwata said in an interview released today that this rumor is false but didn't release the price for the downloads. Sorry to burst the bubble, but you know it was too good to be true.
*cough* try reading the thread buddy*cough*
I'm pretty sure that has already been stated several times, with links as well.
Also, wrestling is gay. And not in a "I choose a different lifestyle, but don't flaunt it" kind of way, but the "we're here, we're queer and we're obnoxious as hell" kinda way.
:P Only kidding.
Well, the wrestling jab was kinda random.
I still think that Nintendo will be pricing the games, albeit cheaply. 99 cents for a NES games, $1.99 for a SNES game, $4.99 for an N64 game and the BS & N64DD stuff? I'll probably cost twice as much in English pounds, but I think it's a kinda reasonable guess. How much would you guys pay for those old games?
EDIT:A little more info about that list.
IGN.com wrote:The latest issue of Famitsu Magazine in Japan reveals that all of Nintendo's first party-published NES, S-NES, and Nintendo 64 classics will be available for download on Revolution.
The publication offers no specifics on games, but an overzealous message board poster calling himself 'myahon' put together a preliminary list of some 214 possibilities based on their first party status.
Orion wrote:I'm not so sure that they will be all that cheap. Remember, Nintendo wasn't afraid to slap a $20 price tag on its Classic NES Series. They still do need to make a profit, although most of what it makes on its Virtual Console will be pure profit.
the classic series are on seperate catridges which is where the cost came from but with the revoloution its all online so there is no need to make catridges and compact discs thus the price will be greatly smaller.
*sigh* I knew it was too good to be true... Granted, I'm still excited as hell about the Revolution... I'm just gonna sit around here and be hyped from here until Thanksgiving. I had a thought, though... If they DID offer at least some titles for free, they could finally solve that age-old problem of buying a console and only being able to afford one game, which you then proceed to play to death.
I know that the first few days I have the Revolution, I'll be downloading $hit all day!
