Tom feels I've used some of his wav sounds in my sfx.dat files, and since I have 100's of wavs and really don't know where they all came from I told him I would replace those sounds in my sfx.dats

New Link to Tortuga sound file is HERE (http://members.toast.net/mfreedom/2.10_sfx.zip)

Link to Tortuga released.

Returning from a diplomatic mission, Princess Zelda's ship is Swashbuckled by pirates and she is captured and taken to the pirate stronghold know as Tortuga Island.
Held for a ransom of eight blue pearls, it's up to Link to pay the ransom in order get her back.

Preview Screenshots (http://members.toast.net/mfreedom/ZC/tortuga.htm)

Link to Tortuga now on AGN's Quest database (http://zeldaclassic.armageddongames.net/viewquest.php?q=219)

Game play notes;
*Link to Tortuga is designed to be played on the new 2.10 version of Zelda Classic.

*Overworld (spacebar) map has been turned off due to a serious bug in the 2.10 that causes the map to trigger secrets on layers of screens the map is used on.

*You should never have to buy a key, they're there, you just have to find them.

Release notes;
Special Thanks to:
Miguel, Elise, Iriss, Joe, David Ballard Jr., and Shoelace for beta testing this quest.
Sprites of Joe and the Rabbit are from *b*'s Sun Tower tileset, thanks goes to him for releasing those.
Thanks goes to DN and fatcatfan for their hard work in releasing the new 2.10 Zelda Classic program, which this quest is designed to be played on.

*Using a cheat program with "no walls" will cause you grief, I suggest against it, there are tons of hidden floor triggers.

*please report any bugs, bugs found while using a cheat program please do NOT report, as they are probably your fault anyway.

Forgot to mention, each time you beat a level the town and all it's building interiors change, as do the ships.
You need to go back to town between each level or you'll miss items and information.

 Thank you ever so much for this new Quest of yours.

I liked your previous work. Just wanted to let you know.

See you soon for tips and clues.

My only problem would be the absence of an Overworld map. I've waited long to be able to use it... I hope the bug will be fixed soon.

Will download and play.

Know how you feel Carrot Red I also love the overworld map
but this bug really does strange things with the quest on this moment
all kind off things disappeared when you look at your map and go back to the screen
But the Quest is great even without it ;)

Freedom

Yep, it disappointed me having to turn the map off, but it caused some serious problems.
there is a map in the game, press right on the start screen, and there is a map in the screenshot preview above.
It really isn't a complex overworld, once you get the hookshot from level 1 you can go most places.

I'll quote Paris Hilton now "That's Hot". I'm definantly going to download this game.

Gotta try this one! BTW Freedom, could I talk you into submitting Link to Tortuga to the QDB?

Freedom
02-21-2005, 11:28 AM
JayeM,
You bet, I've just held off because to submit them you have to zip all three files together, and that takes me forever to upload, I've got dial-up.

JayeM
02-21-2005, 03:04 PM
It doesn't have to be uploaded, Freedom, you just link to it.

Freedom
02-21-2005, 04:27 PM
ok I submitted it all, I just added the links to the mp3 and the sfx.dat down at the bottom.

Help - where is the hook shot - I've searched all over and have absolutely no clue where it could be. I have sent a pm to Freedom but I was also wondering if anyone else out there could help.

Thanks

It's in dungeon one. What was the last thing you did in the game?

diannew
02-21-2005, 05:50 PM
Found dungeon one - I think - but can't get past spikes without the hook shot. I believe I've been everywhere I can go. Got the medicine, arrow and shield. Did the duckhunt, found the blue candle and fixed the trees, etc., etc.

Dianne

Kairyu
02-21-2005, 05:53 PM
There are three entrances to Dungeon 1. In one you need the hookshot to advance, in another you can see the hookshot, and the third allows you to reach it. The man in the room next to the hookshot gives you a big hint.

diannew
02-21-2005, 05:54 PM
I am asking for help to find the other 2 dungeon entrances, please.

Kairyu
02-21-2005, 06:01 PM
There's one in a huge tree that's hard to miss, another hidden in a small tree that is blocked by a guy who wants a skultulla (I don't remember where it is), and another huge tree that can't be reached unless you set a bush on the adjacent screen on fire. It looks really different from all the others, you can't miss it. I think.

elise
02-21-2005, 06:25 PM
Diannew if you leave the dungeon go to the left down corner passage on your screen
and find the other entrances ;)

diannew
02-21-2005, 06:26 PM
Thanks Kairyu - I'll keep on plugging and try your suggestions.

I'm also stuck in the same place as diannew. I've found all 3 entrances to level 1, but I can't figure out how to get the hookshot. I'm being held up by the switch past the hermit's secret entrance. I've tried everything in my arsenal, but can't trigger the switch. Probably need the hookshot, but how?

elise
02-23-2005, 04:26 PM
you need to hit that orb with your sword
for the hookshot go to another entrance and look behind the light ;)

02-23-2005, 05:28 PM
Ok, thanks for the help. Now I have progressed most of the way through the first level, but now I cant get to the boss or the bottle, can't cross the water on both occasions. I believe I have searched the dungeon thoroughly, but cant find the item I need. Did I miss something in the overworld?

elise
02-23-2005, 05:36 PM
you missed the ladder in level 1
look at your map you missed a room on the left
try a little headbanging :)
and throw a little boomer at statues ;)

Thanks for the help, elise. I found the items i missed but now I have another question. Do dodongos eat super bombs?

Also in my wanderings i found multiple skulltullas, am I wasting them if keep finding them without having a use for them?

Freedom
02-24-2005, 01:47 AM
yes, you should never pick skulltulas up if you have one already, otherwise you may end up having to buy them.

Yes super bombs work with dodongos too.

1. I think I found a bug or something. When I go to the swamp, all of the midis get messed up but the swamp doesn't. I have to close the game to fix it.
2. I need a clue for getting to level 2.

elise
02-24-2005, 03:05 PM
1. it's a 2.10 bug you can play on and by entering another area the music will get back to normal again
2. Level 2 is in the swamp

diannew
02-24-2005, 06:49 PM
I figured the swamp but how do you get to the swamp. I found the bog but not the swamp. Directions would be appreciated.

2. Level 2 is in the swamp

1.Do you mean entering a dungeon because it messes up the midis in all of the areas. I didn't try going into a dungeon yet.

2. Those pirates said it was in the swamp so I went there and don't know where to go there. That's also the place where the midis get messed up... :odd:

sorry for the double post

Where can I find the bow?

miguel
02-27-2005, 03:07 PM
It's on the right side of level 2, just walking not rafting. You'll need one key to open another door to set a switch for passage but that's all and since you have the white sword I'm sure that you can talk that nice Patra into lending it to you

I had that switch set for awhile now (the crystal one) -- but I can find no room where I can walk and get the bow -- and I have left every dock -- trying to go in different directions -- I'm baffled.

Hello, great quest.I jsut beat lvl 1 and then read the post where someone mentioned getting the shield and arrow, stuff I was not able to find. Then I read that all the towns change after you beat a level. Did I screw up and miss my chance to get these items?

elise
02-28-2005, 04:18 PM
if you only beat level 1 sofar you didn't mess up anything I think
just go to the shop in the town or go to the black market
and don't forget after the other levels to go into the town :)

kd5eej
03-01-2005, 01:30 PM
What do you mean by ranger station anyways?

miguel
03-01-2005, 01:52 PM
I think Freedom meant the place where the guy is selling his cave -- he's Forest Ranger Ned and his cave is in a dead tree.

If you found that one and also the one in the live tree that you get to through the holloow log, then you've found two of the entrances. There's just one more entrance in the woods in another live tree -- but you have to figure out how to walk through the forest.

I haven't been able to find any other items in the dungeon yet, is it due to lack of keys or lack of the bow? Am I missing a passage that I need to bomb or do I need the red candle to light those four candle holders in the first room of the furthest right entrance? I've hookshot to the second level of the dungeon but both entrances are blocked by red orbs in rooms I cant find. I suspect the room in the far right entrance with the 4 movable blocks and 6 apparent places to put them and tried every combo but nothing happens.

for those of us back at level 3, I have been just about everywhere and have all the items available, but I can not find the boss or the way to the boss. And I can't do anything with the barrel in front of the ladder going up to the roof of the building. so is the route to the boss outside the building complex or inside, and which screen is the secret housed?

thanks elise, I did pay the man and got the info written down, just making sure I wasn't missing something essential. Gonna move on for now, have given level 4 plenty of time already. Time for a scene change.

*Phalanx, try finding a place at the same elevation and maybe finding a way to pull yourself across. Also, think about 3 dimensional objects on a 2 dimension screen. Any object that is supposed to go up may hide valuable things that you will never see (trees, walls) behind it. Hope this helps.

I have gotten to lv 9. I guess I have used the only two keys that I had in the worng place. I have been all over the bottom two rows of rooms and found a chest that I don't have a key for and I went up to a room with a two headed monster. and have killed him, but still need a key there. Please help me. Thanks for the earlier help that was given to me. Where can I get another key to buy.

thank you for all your help people, I finished level four and I can not figure out how to get past the level five entrance. It looks as if you need the wand but you can't get that untill level six. also I see only one entrance to Graybeard. (on a side point there is one room in level four that I did not get to, the only room on the map to be in the middle, is there something I need from there?)

BTW, a bug is the tree on the right of the bottom middle of all the trees. Basically don't go up to the secret area, go right two screen and try to burn the tree. He will get healed, leave the screen, come back and he will be sick again.

chinostc
03-12-2005, 06:35 PM
a skulltula is a little spider, and you can find them hiding behind trees and other areas as you explore. you can only hold one at a time so dont try to find them all right away or you may be wasting them and have to buy them later on

*Where's Dins fire?*

Freedom
03-12-2005, 08:40 PM
Coder GT,

That tree isn't really a bug... per say.
When you stack flags it reverts back to the first flag triggered.

Skulltulas hide in trees mostly, they were in Ocarnia of Time first I think.

FINISHED!! Great quest, Freedom. Fun quest to play. Any more difficult and I would've given up, but I found finishing each level made me more determined to complete the game. :D The game layout of a single screen having multiple layers and many invisible passages almost made me crazy. I would have liked the lens to show walkthru walls and passages, as I spent lots of time looking for them. But oh, the acclomplishment felt when the way finally is found (like the maze to level 4). Overall, it took 27 hours and I died 53 times. I blew the whistle and ran -- always return to the start of the dungeon -- is there another statue?

Nope just stand close to the statue whistle and run before you can :)

Thanks elise -- I just finished the quest... got to Gannon another way, though... I hugged the wall and hookshot over to the pillat - then down the stairs... did left and right -- ending up on the left.... thanks

And so ends another great quest by Freedom.(this is by far his best) I am sure that all of those that have played this one will be looking for the next quest by Freedom. Poor old Gannon is beaten once again, Zelda spent over 50 hours in prison, and her hero Link died 93 times.(that's hard on the medical bill) so long.

OK :)
hello im new.... and apparently extremly stupid!
I've been wandering around for HOURS, unable to find even 1 of the entrances to the 1st dungeon. I've read over every message in this thread and even with all the "clues" i still cant get anything to happen!

So, I'm going to need someone to just flat out spell it out for me. I know this is rather pathetic but i mean COME ON! :P

for example: i saw someone say in the wall behind a small tree with a kid infront who wants gold skulltulas.... well where is that? I've seen a big tree with a kid who talks about how he wants to colect skultulas for the festival, but that tree doesn't hold any secrets....

Anyways... PLEASE HELP :) thank you

i found time to resume this quest but i am stuck again. this time in level 6. i can go up the right side of the dungeon and get to the area with the map. i can go down to the left but am stuck in the room with 2 chambers, 2 doors, a giant double headed skull in the left chamber. how do i get into the chamber with the double skull?

DLink you can get in that room by walkingthrough a wall down
but you need the mirrorshield if you don't have that go back to the rightside and look for a room where you can headbang a left wall

( did you get the mail about the new url for my forum hope to see you there again ;) )

i have not found the mirror shield yet. i did find a floor stairwell in the room directly below the map room. this leads to a room with 3 firepots, 2 lava pits. 2 floor spikes that are up, and a trigger. it seems that the trigger would lower the spikes which would allow link to use the firepots to hookshot over the lava pits. how do i get to the trigger? thanks to anyone who helps.

to get by the trigger you have to go from the start 2 left and up then take a right and a bigbang up ;)

DLink I think that once you find the path to the mirror shield you will find the way to the trigger you referred to. You can then activate it, but 1st you must locate the shield. (I think)

The raft is in the upper left part of the dungeon, you need to push something to open the passageway.

There are 3 entrances to level 2, go to the eastern entrance. Go up 1 screen, go left 1 screen, open door and go up 1 screen, activate the trigger. Go down, go east, go east, go up, go west, go west, go up and find your prize. You will need 2 keys. With this item you can locate the other. This is the best I recall, it's close if not exact.

Thanks - Joe
