I want to play some old quests that utilize custom sfx.dat files, how do I go about upgrading the format of the sfx.dat files to make them work with Release Candidate 5?
How to upgrade old custom sfx.dat files?
For example I want to play Castle Haunt II but I want to play it in 2.50 RC5 with the custom sfx.dat, but can't!
SFX.Dat...
Incompatible version of sfx.dat.
Please upgrade to v2.11 Build 152.5 doesn't allow you to swap out sfx.dat? I thought sfx were still handled that way for legacy crap.
there's an option in ag.cfg to the effect of "use SFX.dat = 0" or so. Try changing it to 1? I doubt the format has changed for something that old.
use_sfx_dat* and it is set to 1 by default on my copy of RC5.
Well the exact error that is printed in allegro.log is
SFX.Dat...
Incompatible version of sfx.dat.
Please upgrade to v2.11 Build 15I assume the format has changed and backwards compatibility wasn't implemented.
You will probably have to play the quest in 2.10, but then I don't know crap about how sfx are handled. Maybe Gleeok or Saffith can offer some insight. You are sure the sfx.dat isn't corrupt?
It'd be a good idea in the future to include relevant allegro.log errors in the original post to expedite things.

I could but if my memory serves me well, I had problems with that version randomly deciding to crash on me for no reason.
