I don't pray either. But I have come across pretty persuasive stuff that suggests meditating on matters can actually significantly affect the outcome. Sending the good vibes your way.
If you believe that prayers and good words will have no effect, then they will not. If you believe there is a powerful healing force behind it, your chances will go up. The body can be fooled into doing some amazing stuff if you stay positive, although how much of that is divine intervention and how much of that is a placebo effect depends on your personal beliefs...
