--Usergroups have been given differentiating colors. Legend is below logged in user list. Open to color change other than ZC Developers, they HAVE to be Triforce gold, right? Still need to decide what color for QDB Managers.

As easily as removing the custom formatting. Done and done, for that particular group. Now it won't be hard-coded to be black against black.

A few other things:

  • The Neofirst Development forum is now a sub-forum of the ZC Beta Discussion forum. If it ever gets worked on again, it could return. No big deal.
  • The Developers Exchange forum has returned. You never know, right?
  • Avatar size limits are now 150x150 again, with a 25 KB file size cap.

--Made Forum Games and Think Tank Optional. Still debating proper handling of EaTS.

--In case you hadn't noticed, implemented the ability to force users to read a thread. That way important things are for sure seen. A good example is the AGN TOS, once it's been modernized. (Can another member of the staff help with this? ST and I are starting to go blind...)

--Moved a few topics to their appropriate locations within the restored forums.

--Finalized spam prevention. If the new methods prove to be mostly effective, the Welcome to AGN forum that you cannot see anyways will be removed and new user permissions will be restored.

I'll let ST tell you some of the things he's been up to. I know some of these updates seem rather irrelevant, but I want you guys to know I'm hard at work.

Thank you to ALL who have been working hard to get everything restored and back off the ground here. It's really starting to look nice around here again!

I got Windex in my eye. :| Twice. .. .. and there is a broom handle stuck somewhere else. I'm taking my half hour break.

Oh uh ... right.

  • I'm not much on promotion threads, but CJC and erm2003 are now Moderators. Congratulations to them! Old-Skool and Dechipher are still Senior Moderators.
  • Any previous staff that had been inactive has had their ability to alter thread and forum structure temporarily locked away for security reasons. Upon their return, all will happily be restored to its previous condition.
  • Created a few new ranks of reputation, just to give people something to tide them over between ranks. Early on, it will feel like more of an accomplishment for being nice.
  • Locked away the ZC Bugs Forum. Not much of a need for it since it only contains 2.10 threads, even after we're already on Release Candidate 4. (Go check ZC Beta Discussion for the link to the download.)
  • Fixing up the ZC forums for activity. Going to be planning on condensing all the pinned topics there soon. Anyone willing to help with that?
  • Looking into getting some additional skins handy.
  • Plenty more miscellaneous changes that are minor in nature but necessary.

I always liked the shrugging smiley. Didn't that originate here?

Apparently my name should be purple?
I'm not seeing it.

Also, holy shit I love how this has come back to life. Haven't spent this much time on here since I first joined.

--Arcade kicking you back to main forum page after playing has been fixed.

--Postbit Join Date offset has been fixed.

--Still need to figure out this.Anybody else having this problem on LinktheMaster's profile?

Sweet. Maybe now someone can beat Colossal at something... :P How anyone can ever get so good at so many crappy flash games is beyond me.

Also; is it somewhat obvious to new users what they have to do to be able to post in the "specialized" groups/forums? (It looks like not everyone has notices all these..?)

Lol, agreed about Colossal.

Do you mean New Users to upgrade from Welcome to AGN to all forums, or for everybody to be able to post in Forum Games/Think Tank?

If it's the former, we're still testing the effectiveness of the spam blocks before we do away with that system. It was always meant to be temporary, but I didn't think I would get FTP access so rapidly. If for some reason it proves to still be necessary, all new users will be forced to view a topic simply asking them to post on why they want to join. Simple enough.

If it's the latter, every member has been/will be forced to read the thread telling them how to access those optional forums. Or at least should have been/should be. Did you get forced to read it yourself?

Ah, gotcha. I did get that (along with a password expiration) message, but didn't realize it was mandatory.

I'm sure some of you guys remember Acmlm's board. The one thing that really stood out to me on that board was the Header field that you got. It was essentially, a second signature field that appeared before your post entry. People would take advantage of that with HTML tables to make really cool post layouts. These ranged from video game inspired (making the posts look like they're from a video game, sprites and all) or anime, or just whatever. I think the potential of having a feature like that might make some people want to keep posting to see the interactivity of it all.

Maybe it's just on my end, but I'm not seeing any online button next to a person's profile, just text. For example:
User posted image

It would be nice to be able to see the forum archives as well. I don't understand why those are hidden now.

And finally, a while ago, there was a way you could check the recent additions or subtractions to your reputation, and it would list out who have you rep you've received lately, from which member, on which post. I can't find it anymore, so if it's been removed, it would be nice to have back. And if it hasn't been removed, making it a bit easier to find might be nice.

The images to classic black will be restored in mid-September. In the meantime, I'll install a few new themes. It was already on the list, but we'll make it next priority.

ctrl-alt-delete answered that question above. Anyway,

Will look into that.

I've just restored functionality to that part of the profile page. Check to see if you've got it?

Thanks. Permissions are a lot more fine-tuned than IPB forums, but also a lot more .. uh .. "tunnel-vision" in operation, for lack of a better word.

I would like to petition for the return of retro gaming reviews.

For a time, on AGN, we had a feature where users could write articles on games from consoles past (up to N64 I believe). Although I was the prominent writer, War Lord started the idea and a handful of other users got in on it.

I however would suggest a simpler system then the one War Lord did, which involved installing an actual new feature (like what Arcade is) to the board as a whole. Simply have a gaming review forum, and let users write their reviews here. If you want to subforum NES, Genesis, etc., you could do that too. The old system allowed for around 3 or 4 images, though I don't know what you'd plan to do about that (the images usually weren't that big)

DD hid them at the last cleanup. Still not certain about restoring. Though we would like to, we don't want to step on DD and WLs toes.

I was literally fixing the permissions for that right as you posted it.

--Full Members, QDB Managers, and ZC Developers usergroup permissions have been corrected. Still need to double check the other usergroups and then finalize forum permissions.

I may have mentioned it on the board somewhere, but I already mentioned this idea to ST. Basically it'd be a forum to review ANY media. Games, movies, books...as a way to check out what member friends are liking/disliking.

Considering the very name of the forum community it's being discussed in, having an area of the forum devoted to special interest in gaming or other media is pretty important part of the interactive process.

I might be interested in writing a few reviews. I've written a couple on PureZC for the hell of it, and I enjoy doing it, so I'd be willing to contribute.

I hid them? I can't remember why. I don't think there's any harm in letting people browse the ancient epic threads.

It's working fine, thanks!

Edit: About the archives though, it only shows archived threads, not the archived forums (off the top of my head, I remember there being forums for the AGN expos, and I think for April Fools, among others).

Only just now began restoring them. I'm going to finish fixing the forum leader colors real fast, and then I'm headed to bed for the first time before 3:00AM in over a week.

I'll finish restoring them tomorrow and taking care of any necessary permissions. Thanks.

Sadly we can't grandfather in any of the old reviews, as they are long-gone. But that's just an excuse to recycle old wit and pretend nobody noticed XD

Actually, it seems like I stumbled across them somewhere, perhaps the root backup. I'll see what I can come up with.
