When I was playing around with LOZ-Generation5-3, I experienced a fatal quest start-up crash after saving my game on a DMap with save point combos, that Link would continue on, then closing ZC, opening it again, and selecting that quest. When Link appeared on the DMap where I last saved my game, it crashed when Link appeared on the starting screen of that DMap, and it kept crashing every time, so I had to erase the file, load that quest to a new file, then use cheats to get to that DMap, then when I saved my game again and closed ZC, then opened it up again, the crash did not happen when I selected that quest again. I think this random and fatal quest start-up crash may have to do with the fact that the DMap I saved my game on has an intro string that is displayed when the player first enters the DMap. However, it only occurs sometimes. Note that the DMap I last saved my game on had a a save point combo and a save and quit combo, and was set to 'Continue Here', with the Save-Continue Screen Flag checked on the screen where Link would start/continue on that DMap.
Also, in a quest like this, the intro string should be displayed on the DMap where the player last save his/her game if it is the first quest selected immediately after opening ZC. It did that in 2.10, but it no longer does that in 2.5.
I first experienced this fatal crash on DMap 24 (Hurricane Haven). This was after I beat this quest for the first time, unlocked the secret areas with golden enemies via the End Game DMap (49), and showed the first two golden treasures to the old man in area 2 (DMap 1) to get the Key of Spades, which I used to unlock the entrance to the Hurricane Haven DMap, which happens to be the first secret dungeon in the quest. After I saved and quit on this DMap via the Save and Quit Combo, I closed ZC, then when I opened it again, and chose this file, it kept crashing every time Link appeared on this DMap. However, after I deleted the save file, then loaded this quest to a new one, I used cheats to get to the Hurricane Haven DMap, then I saved and quit again, then after I chose this file again after reopening ZC, I didn't experience the crash again.
Hm... So this, and the other crashes you see, are all of these in LOZ-Generation5-3.qst?
I finally got it to crash for me. It looks like there are still a few global array issues left. If it's just your quest that's crashing on you, it could be that array issues are solely to blame.
I've had other quests of mine crash on me at random over the last several months. Besides, other people have had random crashes with their own quests too, and possibly even other people's quests.
(And I thought it had to do with Allegro not being so stable)
Nah, Allegro's got its problems, but it shouldn't be causing any crashes.
Pretty sure I found the problem here. Really bad one, actually; it was surely causing all sorts of trouble. Unfortunately, existing saves will be unfixable.
The crashing's upredictable, so here's a more reliable test: http://www.mediafire.com/?tkz6jdrvkqiwb12
Start arrTest1.qst, F6->Save. Start arrTest2.qst, F6->Save. Close and restart ZC, then run arrTest1.qst again. If allegro.log contains the line "9999.0000," the save data was written incorrectly.
