I am sitting in amazement at the number of spam bots who have infiltrated AGN. I was almost questioning whether or not they were actually real people.

Real people working in volume probably. I almost want to unban the latest one just so I can ban him all over. Except it would be a waste of time. So I just changed all the links. Still a waste of time but I already finished my garden work for the day.

What the fuck is wrong with students today? When was it uncool to be smart?

I blame the education system. How did they get into this grade without being able to do basic math?

As an example of what I have to deal with...

3 2/13 x + 7 = -57 + 9 1/5 x

I ran into a student who could not solve this because they could not do any of the following:

• Moving things across an equals sign (didn't know that you start by subtracting 7 from both sides of the equation and once this was explained, they tried to subtract 7 from both terms on the left side of the equation).
• Combining like terms (they wanted to directly combine the x's with the constants).
• Subtracting with negative numbers.
• Convert mixed numbers to improper fractions.
• 2-digit multiplication.
• Subtracting fractions with different denominators.
• Finding the LCD of 2 fractions.
• Prime factor trees (for helping to find LCM/LCM).
• Rewriting a fraction with a different denominator.
• Dividing by a fraction.
• Converting an improper fraction to a mixed number.

Ok, it's been years since I last had a maths class, but is it bad that that equation makes my brain melt? It's the two fractions that does it for me, I think.

That is pre-Algebra stuff according to Ohio's state curriculum. We did that kind of stuff in seventh grade.

However, I can do more than half of those things you listed.

I want to brag about being able to do those things, but unfortunately it would just make me look like a complete ass because I am, in fact, a senior math major. =)

Currently trying to express in words how much I hate my job at the moment, and trying to decide which game to play/vent with.

Viewing this post, replying, and in complete bewilderment that 11th graders don't know how to multiply...2nd/3rd grade stuff now where I sub teach. It's understandable if the child is special ed that they might catch on later, but I am in complete shock they got that far in school Dark!

"No child left behind" becomes "all children lag behind". Our education system has seriously failed some of these kids. Or, conversely, maybe it *should* have *failed* them and made them repeat the grade until they got it right. I can understand not knowing how to do some of the more advanced things (such as matrices or the law of cosines), but for something fundamental like 2-digit multiplication... Sad.

Rethinking my vacation plans as money has gone to hell in a handbasket on bills and not really being able to do anything anyways.

Trying my hand at telekinesis. 😞 Putting a 1/4 inch square of paper on a thumbtack in a room with no airflow, wearing a face mask, and trying to make it move.

Trying to work with psiballs, ki, and meditation. Trying to learn Theban. ('cuz all my friends are doin' it. 😃 )

How's that for an "I'm sorta back and I'm okay" post. Pretty much the most mundane thing I'm doing lately is watching awesome movies (Hancock, and about to see Inception, at you guys' recommendation.) and cutting keys for people. There's an actual locksmith across the street from the store I work in, and their keys suck. They go straight to me. Me. Specifically me, by name. It's a surprising amount of fun for some reason.

Putting together a brand new quest. some issues that arose but 3 dungeons done, but only 2 of them have triforce pieces.

Eating pork chops.

Trying to get myself motivated to get things done before heading out of town for vacation. Have to do some laundry, but want to nap.....then there's a few other things I need to do or want to do but it's starting to get dark out, but could be done after I get to my dad's place tomorrow after work....decisions decisions decisions......have to work for 630AM EDT until whenever and prepare my coverage with what needs to be done and then other.......random thoughts just driving me nuts 😊

I'm sipping coffee and getting Ubuntu to work right.
(perhaps registration should require adminstrator approval)

I am about to go put a pot of coffee on and then wash the dishes, straighten up the apartment and fix dinner. But right now, at this very moment... I'm sitting in my bed, enjoying the awesome connection I have to someone else's internet. <3
