new forum oddities go here

150 replies · 31,358 views · Started 30 November 2009

I like knowing who gives negative feedback :/ and you can just tell people will go anonymous when giving it if the option is present to do so. I enjoy it because it lets me see WHY a particular person is dissatified or lets me know a bit about what they like etc.

Having the signature down the bottom is great.

It was fixed. 😛 Two things more:

1) The new smilies... they burn...
2) When on a sub-forum, like General Discussion, it would be awfully nice to be able to go to the last page of a thread, like "So...". Right now you have to click on the thread, then click on Last>>.

You can. If there's any new posts, just click on User posted image!

It's the same as other posts. User posted image is used to go to the first unread post and the "last post by" takes you to the end if you've read them all.

Anyways the only thing I can see benefiting from it is that terrible So... thread that lets people post interesting topics that get buried with other topics preventing an interesting discussion on the interesting topic. >.>" I've always prefered keeping things separate, if you want everything together go on IRC or something and not retardify the forum!

The number of interesting threads on this forum has been throttled dramatically ever since that So... thread was invented and it's annoying talking about something within a batch of posts about a separate topic. The whole point in having the ability to have separate threads is so that you can't be offtopic... So... is always offtopic since well... ewotgbwtgbrtgnuiysgh8ogo8shy98zynotroynrio I HATE SO...

Theres no forum for technical/computer related questions anymore :O

edit:

Check out the website here

the "here" link does not work properly, I know the site is long since dead, just pointing out the URL it takes you to does not match with where it should take you to since a forum upgrade.

This is a bit off topic, but I don't think it needs it's own thread. How is "rep power" determined? Is it relative to post count, or does it matter how many rep points you have? Also, how does the green bar work? It seems to have two shades of green, and the number of units does not correspond with rep power.

It was discussed earlier in this thread.

They're a day apart about separate issues and I wanted to mark the thread as containing new posts. If editing marks a thread as containing new posts then I would have done that instead.

Yes. The whole postbit looks a bit weird now too. With signatures all shrunken and aligned on the left side.

I'm upgrading vB as they release patches; until things get stable there might be some oddities in the look and feel.

I keep getting signed out when I leave the page, even though I've checked the lil 'Remember Me' box.
I tried clearing my cookies and it works for a few times after that, but then it signs me out again.

Okay, great, I can click on the User posted image, but what if I want to get to the last page of a thread without new posts?

I'm still having the same issue. Now, I'm staying logged in for less than one minute of any activity at all before I get logged out...

I mean, I literally have to log in to click the reply button and get a post reply page, and then write the post, copy it all to the clipboard, and refresh the page and sign in again to post it. It actually logs me out before I get a chance to click reply after writing the post. 😞 I've already followed the guides posted earlier. They appear not to have worked.

I hope this doesn't sound stupid, but maybe you should re-instal Firefox?

Somebody dig in the code and set an expiration date on the cookies that's sometime in the future.

Here's a couple of the Set-Cookie headers from a login at 8:19 PM Central time. It's UTC -6, so that would be 2:19 AM December 22:

bblastactivity=0; expires=Wed, 22-Dec-2010 02:19:34 GMT
bblastactivity=0; expires=Wed, 22-Dec-2010 02:19:34 GMT

So when I log in at 8:19, I get cookies that expire at 8:19. For the love of Pete, look up setcookie(), particularly the $expire parameter. As the code suggests, time()+60*60*24*30 will set the cookie for 30 days in the future. Do a find/replace on the code and fix it plz.

My guess is that right now it's using the default for $expire, which deletes the cookie at the end of the "session". That used to translate to "when you close the browser", but I bet it can also be interpreted as "when you close a tab", which probably explains why sometimes you stay logged in and sometimes you don't.

Looking at that, you're getting cookies that will expire a year later. I checked my cookies for this site, the 4 that are related to vB login data expire 12/01/10, while 4 others are session cookies.

Ahhhh curses. I saw that a while back and for some reason this time thought it was 2010 already. Temporal fail. I'll go about hunting down where/if the cookies get cleared then. (of course now it's working perfectly)

For what it's worth, clearing the old AGN cookies fixed all my staying-logged-in problems. May want to look in to that.

The remember me button will not keep me logged in, and my reputation panel isn't under Settings. What's good?

Try clearing your cookies again. Two weeks ago the forum stopped keeping me logged in but a quick clearing of cookies again seemed to take care of the problem. Not sure about your reputation panel...it should be under settings-mine is.

no dice. I've tried firefox and chrome, and it will forget I've been there after closing the browser or navigating away from the site.
