I've already talked about this in beta discussion and I'm not sure if this is really a bug..........but I would really really like to see this go away.
Zquest freezes randomly on dropdown menus. It does it editing combos, in shop types, setting the screen palette and just about every other dropdown menu I've tried. I always have tooltips turned off and auto saves disabled.
When I first downloaded 967, I thought it had somehow been fixed....till today. I was changing the palette on a screen and it froze up. Usually it will unfreeze on it's own after a while, not today.....after about 15 min. of waiting I figured it wasn't going to happen, so I had no choice but unplug this thing again. I don't like doing that but I really had no choice.
I just tried 976, it is still doing it.
It does it in the quest I'm building and it does it in the default LOZ quest.
I'm guessing this could be this old 'puter of mine......but as far as I can tell there is nothing else running when it freezes.
I can't verify this at all.
Actually it isn't random in my case. As long as the left mouse button is held down, it seems to just freeze the display, but still scrolls through the list properly, and everything updates just fine as soon as you let go of the button. That's 976 on XP.

This, on the other hand, has been verified and fixed.

In 976 I seem to be able to scroll a bit longer before it freezes. If I scroll very slowly and I go directly to my selection, most of the time, I can get it selected and get out of the menu before it freezes.
If anyone has any ideas about this or has experienced this at all, I'm open to any and all suggestions.
I plan on using this program and I'd hate to see this in the final version.
check your computer memory with memtest86 and your CPU via running prime95 for a while.
these tests should each be run for 2 hours~
I've been scrolling through various different dropdown menus and nothing has been happening. And looking at the code I don't have the slightest clue where to begin diagnosing a problem.

Thanks franpa, I downloaded prime95 and I'll run it tonight.
From what I can tell you you have to buy memtest8. I'll be bargain hunting.
Sorry jman, I didn't know what else to do.

Huh? No, you don't have to buy memtest86. Get it here: http://www.memtest86.com/download.html
You can buy the CD, or just make your own.
I don't think it's the dropdowns. For me, dialogs don't update while a mouse button is being held down. For instance, buttons on dialogs work, but don't show their pressed state when you click them.

I already addressed that, don't worry :x
Yea, you only have to pay if you want them to send you a disc, if you want to make your own however then it is a free download (3 or so MB for the ISO)
Thanks for the response guys.

I downloaded the first one on the list and I extracted it and put it on a CD. When I open it it just shows one file.
Memtest 86 3.5 1,112 KB WinZip file 3/16/2009
I have no idea how to run this........
It's an ISO. You have to burn it with your favourite CD burning software, or something like: http://www.ntfs.com/iso-burning.htm
(I just googled "ISO burner", and posted the first hit. I disclaim all warranty as to the quality of software on that site)
or use the Windows CD Burning feature, it is included with Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7... just drag and drop the ISO file onto the CD drive in Windows Explorer.
Or make a floppy of it, if you have one of those old-fashioned disk drives and the media to use with it. -- Pteryx
