I did a little test on how rings work when they use magic. I set the Blue ring to use 4 MP, the Red ring to use 8 MP, and the Golden ring to use 16MP.
If taking damage would run the magic meter to a point that's not enough to use the golden ring, Link reverts to his no ring palette; the same happens if his magic meter is too low to use the red ring. If Link doesn't have enough magic to use the golden ring but he does have enough for the red ring, then perhaps he should revert to the red ring palette instead of the no ring palette, and if Link doesn't have enough magic for the red ring but he does have enough for the blue ring, then he should revert to the blue ring palette instead of the no ring palette. Also, other items that use magic do not affect Link's colors if they take his magic meter down to a point where he wouldn't have enough magic to use a particular defense ring.
I'm confused. Does this actually happen (Meter is depleted when hit), or are you suggesting that it should work that way?
To clarify:
You can indeed set the Magic Cost of a Ring!
You can also set the Magic Cost of a Peril Ring, too.
Anyway... feedback noted!

The ring works fine, the problem is that if you use something ELSE that uses magic, then the ring will not automatically disappear when you dont have enough magic for it.
I didn't know these Items worked in this way. Can the rings be activated and deactivated too or is it a permanent drain on magic every time you get hit?
I forgot to mention that if Link doesn't have enough magic for the golden ring, then the red and blue rings will not work, even if does have enough magic for one or both of them. In other words, he would take normal damage again!
And if he doesn't have enough for the red ring, then the blue ring does not work, even if he has enough magic for that. So then he would take normal damage again.
So, in summary, only the highest level ring Link has is used for anything at all?
Sorry I hadn't tested this out in a while...
Here's how it still is in 976:
Only the highest level ring is used if the rings are set to use magic. If Link doesn't have enough for the highest level ring he has, any ring of lower levels are rendered useless regardless of whether or not he has enough magic to use them.
Also, Link's ring palette doesn't change when his magic drops to an amount smaller than the amount required for the highest level ring from using other items that use magic. Of course, his ring palette should change to whatever ring he has enough magic for rather than reverting to his no ring palette.
In other words, no different from the last time I summarized the issue in a single sentence?
Sorry to bump this, but the only problem now is that Link's tunic changes color when he has only half the ring's magic cost! Yet it doesn't work unless he has the full magic cost.
As far as I see it, the colour is actually correct, but the magic consumption is wrong.
Fixed!
I think this is fixed now, because before it was fixed, Link would lose 2 rupees while wearing magic armor that expends 1 rupee. Now it only expends 1 rupee!
