Yeah, so basically when I close ZC/ZQ it just kind of half-closes, I can't see
the window, but it's in the task bar and Task Manager, and it's taking up memory (around 55000 usually for ZQ). I can close it then via Task Manager.:eyebrow:
I've had this happen with the player a couple times, but I've never had any issues with ZQuest. Don't remember the circumstances. But I have had to end the process via Ctrl+Alt+Delete to get ZC to close completley
I've had this happen with the player as well sometimes on XP.
I've had it too, it is very random, sometimes never occurs, sometimes occurs a lot. The most annoying thing though? the Player doesn't save your progress untill you "quit" the program, this bug effectively forces you to end the program without it saving which can easily piss some off.
Well, that narrows it down some. Now we know that it hangs before the save routine is finished.
Download these and try them. First, run zquest-w. After you run that and close it, if it hangs, wait 2 minutes, then kill the process. If it doesn't hang, try up to 10 more times or until it does hang. If you are able to get it to hang, copy the contents of allegro.log here. Then, delete allegro.log and run zelda-w and do the same with it. I've added some traces into the 2 programs that should help determine exactly where the hang occurs.

I get that every time, nothing else happens, nothing more is added to the log file. It happens every time I run ZQUEST. I have not done much quest playing lately and have not yet encountered a crash while using the Player.
Getting the same...

I haven't gotten ZC to hang yet, though...
Okay, I got it now. I had to run zelda-w directly without zc.sav existing and quitting as soon as the file select screen appeared in order to get the program to hang.

Okay. I just uploaded a new version that gives me a bit more detail. Can you try again and post the results here?
I can't crash the player by deleting the save file (sav). I'll get the newer builds (from the same place I presume)
exact same log for ZQUEST, so I assume thats not the right link to the updated build >_<
Or the problem was fixed by a change I did. Can anyone else get it to crash on a somewhat consistent basis?
I redownloaded it and the same freeze/log results. thats what I meant ^
Okay. Unfortunately, the call that's crashing is allegro_exit(), a function defined and managed by the Allegro library. There is most likely nothing we can do with it for now. Moving to Limbo.
Zquest closes fine and dandy under Vista Home Premium 32bit o_o
