As the title says, it got something to do with the Item pickup checkbox: "Upgrade item when collected twice"
I made an item, I gave it a custom itemclass, level 1 and checked the "Upgrade item when collected twice" rule. Then I made another item, gave it the same custom itemclass as the previous item, level 2 and left the rule unchecked. I put the level 1 item on the overworld, and placed the same somewhere else. I tested it in ZC. I collected 1 level 1 item. Good, it appears on the subscreen. Then I collected the other level 1 item(so the same, only at another location) but the level 2 item didn't pop up in the subscreen, even not if I checked the "Upgrade item when collected twice" rule on the level 2 item. So I assumed it is a bug and I post it here.
It might be I did something wrong, but I did as seemed most logical.
[B 864] Custom Items: "Upgrade item when collected twice"
Hmm... you're not using an Item Override in that subscreen, are you?
Use Cheats and check the Link Data to confirm that the L2 item is not being added.
This is what I did, I just took the standard unedited subscreen, appearing as in Zelda 1, added the item there as an equipment item. Should work perfect right? I'm also sure I did the item settings right as I declared in my first post.
I did as you told, collected the item once, item appears, collect it again, item doesn't appear, check the Link Data with cheats and the level 2 item remained unchecked. So it gotta be a bug with the item rule, or such.
Also, I might not ask this question, but are you truely the only active, bugscleaning ZC developer? It seems that others do nothing will you do all the work. No offense, but it can be that this slows down the release of the true 2.5. So all my ZC life depends on you... =P
Hmmm. I see no problem with your method. But at the same time, I sense something else is amiss. Send me a test quest file, please.
I found the "origin" of the bug, for the collectable items I used "z197"(random combination) type "empty items" to customize. Those didn't work, while the "empty items" named as "custom item <number here>" did work. This is weird...
Test file:
Proof
Screens 00 and 01 contain the correct working items(blue) and screens 10 and 11 the wrong ones(white), quest is unpassworded, cheat is nothing, so a space.
If it's supposed to work like this, which would sound very weird, I would still need those huge amount of custom items, next to the great amount of those collectable items I will use I will use normal custom items too, so pl0x fix!
Also, why didn't you answer my question? =\
I choose not to speculate on the continued inactivity of the other three developers. I trust that they have sound reasons.
Okay! I downloaded your test quest and ran it...

...and everything worked perfectly!
1+1=2.
Conclusion: it somehow got fixed after the last build was released...?
No, no, I'm using 864, the latest build.
And did you test the white "1"'s? They are in screen 10 and 11 as I said. The white ones don't work for me, light blue does. Just read my before post, as I explained.

That... is actually a simple bug. Fixed!
I hope you're kidding, "humble apologies"?
Anyway, it's fixed? Thanks!
