This happens IF my quest opens playing a midi and an mp3 sound at the same time.
IF I remove the mp3 (sound effect) from the folder then the quest plays.
If I hit retry, I get an illegal operation and get booted out.
If I hit ignore I get the mp3 sound effect looping over and over with a black screen and no way to exit short of shutting off the system.
This always worked before.
Edit (again) This happens every time it calls for an mp3 file regardless of where you are in the quest, so I guess it just doesn't like playing mp3's and midis at the same time anymore.
Does this happen on 798 with you also? If so, this is probably the same crash I'm getting.
Also, how is it possible to play an mp3 and midi at the same time? Since they're both considered bgm, shouldn't this be impossible?
They don't actually play at the same time, it's the either or thing.
The mp3 is loaded in and if not found the midi plays, but ALL mp3's in my quest loaded as alternate are crashing.
I could have worded that better. 😉
I don't know about 798, I quit using the program back in 718 and it worked then.
Alright, I think I can confirm this then, seeing how when I play my quest it crashes a ridiculous amount, yet when others play it they have no problems.
Windows XP. For me it never crashes when you start the game, only when you continue(very high % crashing) or goto.(sometimes crashes)
My first screen is an mp3 of a wolf howling, which then insta-warps to another identical screen only with the midi replacing the wolf howl.
I reported this before I realized that it was every mp3 that crashed it, and then came back and edited the post, so that's why it's a bit confusing.
If you don't mind a little experimentation, could you do a binary search on this and see if you can pinpoint where it stopped working? To explain (I'm sure you know the procedure, but maybe I'm not using the correct name), you said it worked in 718, but not 818. There were about 16 windows betas between the two, so try a version that is 8 betas back (build 777) and see if you have the same bug. If you do, then go 4 builds back from that (738). If you don't, however, then go 4 builds up from it (798). Keep doing this until 2 consecutive windows builds have different results for your bug. This way, you only have to test half of the betas instead of all of them.

I have all of the betas from 718 up but not unzipped and functioning so it will take me a little while to install them all and start the process of narrowing it down.
It will probably be late tonight or tomorrow before I can get back with that info. 😉
Midi and MP3 should play together fine though o_O they use completely separate systems....
Actually, I think I can narrow it down for you (having since examined the code a little more closely). Try 726 and 735. I'm betting that 726 doesn't have the issue but 735 does.
I think I can track down this bug and fix it if I can have a quest to verify when my changes are working. Can you send me your quest, Freedom? Even a stripped down version would do. Just anything that has this issue. I'll need the MP3 file(s), too.
You can e-mail it to me: greg_phillips at hotmaildotcom
Didn't take me as long as I thought it would.
798 works
809 - crashes my system looking for a newer version of windows
813 - crashes my system looking for a newer version of windows
816 - crashes my system looking for a newer version of windows
818 and 819 both load and run but crash with the mp3 files
Let me know if you still want the quest and if so I'll zip it and the mp3's and upload it for you to grab, that way you don't need your email spread all over the web.
You could just, PM him 😉 unless you think your not able to keep DN's email safe yourself o_O
I was talking about it being displayed there where bots and everyone else can get it.
As for the quest I can put it on my server and he can grab it from there without need of his email being posted, I would PM him the address.
😉
OH, I see :P yea, you should remove your email DN or make it a picture with a filename different to your email.
That's not my main e-mail address. That's my spam catcher address. I use it whenever I have to give an e-mail address to a site I'm registering at. I only check it occasionally to clear out the junk (to keep from going over quota) and when I get someone to e-mail me stuff. 😃
But you said that 798 plays the quest fine? Please send it to me either in e-mail or upload and PM.
