I don't think it will be that much of a shocker. I've not seen anything come from Nintendo in a while that was considered shocking. To be shocking, it would have to be a world exclusive look at something in their magazine only, and be something that would actually be intesting. I'm not sure if I would care. But, just out of curiousity, if the editors are sworn to secrecy, then why would some random internet site be able to mention it? So it sounds more likely its a game that hasn't actually been shown off yet.
Edit:
I don't get the whole moon thing. Its a picture of the moon. Big deal. The only thing I can think of that would be a "clue" is the fact that the moon is red, and the reasons the moon will appear red. The atmosphere filters the blue from the sunlight cause things to look reddish, mostly happening during a lunar eclipse, like its seen in this blog. I think smoke from wildfires can also cause the moon to appear red. And the red moon has something to do with the apocolypse too I think. If the game has anything to do with those, I wouldn't be surprised. So I done searches for games that involved those, like Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, but even that I'm not sure, since its been revealed already. The new Castlevania game is called "Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia", does that have anything to do with moons?
The Desperado wrote:And this is Nintendo Power, they wouldn't make it too hard since their reading base is lower in age than EGM or whatever.
I don't think THAT young though, considering I've seen some mild profanity used in Nintendo Power, and several T rated ads, then the majority has to be over 13.
I am starting to think it is Castlevania also.
It is not Harvest Moon. A few pages later in Nintendo Power it titles the Harvest Moon Wii game...

You know, the more I think of this, it will probably be a new series. Hopefully, one that actually will be a good FPS, or perhaps a RTS. But knowing Nintendo, it's probably got some original gameplay mechanic everyone's excited about. And if it's third-party, well, that can open up a large can of worms--some obviously fit the moon photo, while others may come out of nowhere.
Looking around on the other interwebs, the prevailing theory seems to be that it will be an announcement for Disgaea: Prince of the Demon World and the Red Moon. Considering that it is a picture of a red moon, that sounds pretty likely.
Remember that last time they did this it was the announcement for Nights, which had already been rumored online. So the fact that some people already know about it doesn't necessarily mean it isn't it.
DarkDragoonX wrote:Disgaea DS has been confirmed for quite some time now. If that's all the moon thing is about, they're really behind.
Wow, I'm friggen behind then... >_<
If it IS Disgaea, though, I hope they don't do something like the PSP one. As much as I like Disgaea 1, I wouldn't like another remake of it.
Knowing Nintendo, it will probably be something dumb. For all we know, it could be Mario Galaxy 2. A picture of the moon recolored to be red is just to simple to get anything out of.
Maybe they are adding a new disaster to Disaster: Day of Crisis:

😃

2 things.
First of all, that letter does not 100% confirm that the title in the back is third party.
Second of all, have you even read this thread?
Edit: If I had a guess, I would say we are going to finally know the answer come Friday.
- IGN will have 1 exclusive, Friday - Craig: “Pretty big,” unannounced - Wii & DS game, based off distinct property - video, screenshots

*gasp*! Three pictures that are not rotated the same way as that moon picture!
Ok...you apparently didn't grasp my question.

Anyone remember the Majora's Mask commercial? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQMD4XudxoE
I never played Earthbound, but it recently got a rating by the ESRB, so it's likely to be coming to the VC. It might be about that. As for Pokemon in space... I wouldn't put it past them. But it hasn't been long since the last handheld Pokemon game, right?

Hey, amybe if we're lucky, it will be a sequal to Majora's Mask. I sure wish it were.
it's Mario shooting Yoshi with a fireball
its a wii only game not a ds game, it the article about wii fit he says he was distracted by a wii game that he saw earlier, he also mentions its the the game they swore to secrecracy. Anyways the ign game problably isnt the game they were talking about.
Castlevania?
Yeah the IGN game announced today was a skate spin-off (who cares)
I now seriously doubt it's FFIV: http://www.square-enix.com/na/company/press/2008/0410/
It was announced on April 10 that the game would be released in North America July 22. I can't see doing all this over a game that's confirmed.
There are scattered reports on gaming sites that there's some super-secret Wii game Nintendo's showing off to insiders but swearing to secrecy; no one's made a direct article about it but it's hard to find an article about a visit to Nintendo without a sentence like "I'd say more about [game under review/preview] but I was kind of distracted by a Wii game Nintendo's keeping under wraps right now so I didn't play too much."
How can a Wii game be that distracting? Heh
Edit: typo

Maybe they have a guy in the room doing an extensive playtest of Nintendo's next big hit, Wii Masturbate.
They do that have japanese Wii game where you undress witches, or something like that, if you're into being a pedophile and all that is.
I remember hearing about that. I couldn't remember what it was called, but a quick trip to Kotaku sorted that out.
It's amazingly creepy. It seems like it was also amazingly popular in japan, and has a sequel on the way. I really don't know what to say. The level of fucked up in Japan has reached an all-time high.
Here's what I see in the moon. Link! Therefore, maybe a new Zelda game? Let me know what you think.

Wow. I don't even think that counts as grasping for straws.
This is why the puzzle is pointless. You can see anything there if you try hard enough.
It's like giving us a picture of a cloudy day and going "OMG LOOK AT OUR GENEROUS HINTZ!". Tells us nothing.

Right. It's especially pointless since the image has already been compared to a "non-Nintendo Power" version of the same image and it's identical. All they did was color the moon orange.

Yeah... I can't believe I didn't notice it sooner too. lol
Could be Castlevania (as some have suggested). I saw a picture of the rumored new Castlevania game, where you play as a woman, a while back.
We now have an answer...
http://www.pokemon.co.jp/special/platinum/02.html
That makes Pineconn the winner. Congratulations!
How is that the answer? It has nothing to do with the moon...
Yeah I'm calling recount until someone scans an NP page. I'm still in the process of getting them to recognize I didn't die in Hurricane Katrina and I should have my subscription reinstated.
