[ZCL] ZQuest only opens in Large Mode!

For some reason, ZQuest opens in Large Mode even when the Large Mode check box in the ZC Launcher is unchecked! 😡

Dark Nation made ZQuest open in Large by default- Deviance will probably have to make ZCL compatible with this change. :shrug:

I was able to get the new beta to open in Windowed mode... but the window contained a Large Mode screen. I had to disable 2x window size to make it fit on my screen and thus not auto-quit on launch. While Large Mode looks like it has neat stuff and would be handy particularly for making maps, I'd like to be able to do windowed Small Mode again, in part so I can actually see things in the tile editor screen and such. Not to mention, for some reason Large Mode seems to really slow down the animation of animated tiles... -- Pteryx

The whole point of making large mode default was so that we could make the dialogs bigger and more informative and allow the newer functionality without having to worry about sticking to 320x240. Cause I have to be honest, 320x240 is a pretty stupid limitation for a level editor.

As do I... Although you guys know you can still switch it back to small mode, right? So you have to close and reopen zq one extra time each build if you don't like large mode. Takes like 15 seconds, Big whoop. I got over it already.

edit;

Go to optoins->small mode...

..and yeah I get really bad slowdown with large mode too.

Each build? If you set the option for small mode (from the options menu), it should carry over to future builds.

You can also use the -small command-line switch to do it on a per-use basis.

But people like me that has a low end computer uses it. I didn't appreciate not being contacted about this. Now I have to rework on ZCL to fix this type of issue.

I had an insane slowdown with Large mode when it was windowed, to the point that it took me about 5 minutes to close out of it. It ran perfectly, however, in full screen. Try that and it should run perfectly.

I always use normal mode 640x480 as well. I haven't really played with Large Mode enough to get a final impression on it. However, I personally don't think Large Mode should be the default since it isn't the original layout of ZQuest, but I have no say-so in this.

People should actually use large mode BEFORE they complain about it.

i've hardly used zquest >.> but large mode does look pretty groovy imho.

One of the major problems with large mode (and ZC/ZQ in general) in windowed mode as far as speed is concerned is that we're basically trying to shoehorn 8-bit color into a much higher-color depth. Basically, the image has to be converted to the color depth of the desktop for it to display in the OS properly, and this is extremely slow. I'm currently looking at ways to improve performance of the program in general.

Also, large mode isn't going away. The current design isn't final obviously, but right now I'm focusing my efforts on making large mode work as well as possible.

make a popup appear while in windowed mode if your not already in 256 colour mode telling people to switch to 256 colour desktop >.> microsoft does that with hover95 ^_^

Big mode would be fine if only the windows were resizable or scalable. As it is, editing tiles in big mode is a tremendous pain in the eye. You get to edit at 1/8 the size of regular mode. Same with bitty text.

!!!

*drools*

OMG, that is so sexy. So how many tiles are we going to be able to edit at once? This is so awesome. This is going to make recoloring so easier. <3

The original plan was to edit 1 tile, 2x2, or 4x4. I've been talked into modifying the plan to allow for any width from 1 to 4 by any height from 1 to 4.

Pretty awesome, devs. That'll make recoloring multiple tiles a breeze. By the way, large mode is VASTLY superior to normal mode, whether 2x or not. :shrug: I see no problem with making it default, especially when you can still access normal mode with ease.
