It's easier to replicate this on Windows than it is Mac, but the behavior should still be the same.
1) Make a quest on ZC 1.92 build 183/184. Make sure that one room includes the Master Sword as the special item, but don't put it in one of those Guy Rooms. A dungeon item would suffice.
1a) The quest I was playing was called The Hidden Duality: Director's Cut. According to PureZC, it's meant for 1.92 b183/184.
2) Play the quest, and have less than 16 hearts.
3) Pick up the sword.
...or try to at least. You just can't pick it up.
Now, I'm going to hope that there isn't some 16 heart limit I'm not aware of, because I really want to be able to use full power. If there is such a limit when there aren't 24 HCs available, then feel free to close it.

It is now that _L_ has "fixed" it:
L wrote:* Fixed the bug in which an item's 'Hearts Required' requirement would only be in effect for Special Items.
...thereby upping the difficulty of every previous quest that gave you a sword "out in the open" this way.
And there's quite a few of those.
(I remember a similar issue that happened before the required hearts for a sword was editable. It used to be 16 hearts for the master sword, but one of the devs changed it to 21, and then had to change it back to 16 once someone noticed that they couldn't get the master sword from a guy in a quest that only had 16 hearts...)
My apologies.
But the problem is, the quest I'm working on is actually quite reliant on using Hearts Required to make dropped items that can't be picked up. Dear me, what to do...
Yeah, I figured that was why you made the change; I can see that being useful at times as well.
The only two ways I can think of at the moment would be a quest rule or an item flag.
Well, maybe a script that gives you an item, if you have enough hearts when you touch a particular combo disguised as an item, could also work.
But that's too long and complicated, so it doesn't count. 😛
Remember that my bug description said less than 16 hearts failed. If someone can test exactly 16 hearts, then we would have more information.

Like with all functional changes that will break old quests, put in a quest rule that's on by default for 2.10 and earlier.
Looks like L fixed this in the next build.
