At first, I encountered a bug in 692.
This bug is real. If you can see why the patra kids killed off screen, make sure the quest rule "Subscreen appears above sprites" is OFF. Wait for the chance for the kids to go above the screen (use big circles or level 3 or 4). As you see the kids go through the subscreen, when near top, I see death sprites, and vanished.
