Okay, that's just awesome

So, I dropped by Gamefaqs today to check the list of upcoming PC games when I noticed that they were doing one of their character battle thingies. I don't know how long this will last, but currently, Solid Snake, Sonic, and Squall are all being dominated by...

The L-block from Tetris

Naturally, that is made out of far too much "win," as the colloquial term goes, for me to not comment on it. Go, L-block, go!
Very surprisingly, L-Block is just slightly ahead of Snake.

as of this post:
Solid Snake - 28.79%
L-Block - 29.05%
Yeah, I saw that too. Been checking it for a while now. It's just really interesting to watch. I hope Samus ultimately takes the prize, but that's just me.

It's a bit surprising though. The L block isn't really characterized very well in-game. Sure, he's got that whole "cheating on the square with the stick" thing going, as well as his mysterious past in the Nevada military labs as an experiment in fitting people into subway cars even better, but I just don't feel that it's enough to put him over the top and defeat Snake. :-/

Though I'm sure that if the power rangers or Stephen Colbert got on there, people would still vote for them. 😛 At least a little bit.

It's amazing how far kitsch factor will take you these days. I would love to see Samus win, but Link wins this thing like every year. I mean, of course I like Link, and all, but let's give our bounty hunter friend a little love, too.

...No, not Dog.

...XD To top this all off, L-block came to my house for candy on halloween.

Cool costume, but... :P kinda hard to move around, I'd think.

Wow. It looks like the final is going to be between Link and the L-block.:eyebrow:. For crying out loud, an L-block!

Actually, Samus won last year. Link just won the elimination battle.

To top it all off, all Cloud has really had since FF7 was Advent Children. Samus had had quite a few magnificent adventures. A shame, really.

The current poll (as of this post) has L-Block very surprisingly edging far away from Master Chief, Dante (DMC), and Solid Snake. I guess the only shock would be if L-Block actually lost this year's character battle, with the way things are progressing.

Watching all these irritatingly famous characters get their asses beat by a tetris piece gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling inside. Come on, L-block!

Well its on to the final now, and while it is still early, the L-block is winning by a pretty significant margin in the percentage points (nearly 20% at the moment). It looks pretty probable that he(?) will win it all this year.

See, I want to know what would happen if L-Block and T-Block were to throw down. Or--heaven forbid--if I-Block were to step into the ring.

It's quite amusing (in a agonizing sort of way) to go to their message boards, and see all the Zelda/FFVII fanboys so upset that their beloved characters will lose to the L-Block. But the fact of the matter is, Link or Cloud ends up winning every year. It's refreshing, seeing a new champion after several years of the same.

Yeah, and then Link'll be all like, "Yeah, I won every single year except the time L-Block decided to enter. Fuckin' L-Block..."

They've now made a special exhibition match between L-Block, paddle, weighted companion cube, and ? box :P

Of course L-Block will win since it just won the overall contest and people are hyped about it, but I'm kind of sad that the paddle has so few votes... XD

? box is winning. I just can't believe that an L block one the competition. It's crazy.

L-Block won, and now they're having it go up against the Pong paddle, the Weighted Companion Cube, and the ? Block from Mario Bros. Currently the ? Block is winning.

edit:
Agh, I forgot to check the second page of the thread. Stupid me.
