624: Playing music does not work at all in ZQuest

17 replies · 2,983 views · Started 13 October 2007

If you select "Play music" and pick a music to play in ZQuest, the music won't play at all. It seems to have started in this version of ZC (624, if I'm not mistaken), as it was working fine in previous versions. Now, it doesn't work at all, and it was my favorite feature to listen to music while working.

Go to ZC launce and enable music/MIDI and it will fix this problem, you can also enable other things to,if this does not work then reply for a nother soultion😉

That doesn't help me much at all. I'm trying to help point out a bug, and I don't need instructions by you to help me. I'll wait for a ZC developer for help or to confirm this bug is squashed.

Which specific music were you trying to play Solair?

I tested both Lost Woods (built-in) and Kirby Super Star's Green Greens (spc file) in ZQuest 613, and they work.

I just tested playing a midi through ZQuest using build 626 and it worked fine. If you are really using build 624 you should upgrade because that build had some problems. If you are using 626 (the latest one) then you should double-check your computer volume settings. Make sure all of your volume adjustments are correct and you didn't mute anything by accident.

I meant beta 626, sorry about that. In Beta 626, NSF and GBS files will not play at all, no matter what. I try turning the volume up, nothing. I'm pretty sure the sound card needs to be upgraded, but it's working alright.

Thank you for helping me though.

To answer your question, I am using Windows XP Service Pack 2.

Edit: This bug still occurs in the latest version of ZQuest (build 635 - Windows)

Then don't post if you don't want open responces, and try redownloading it,or make sure you have all the right stuff pluged in😉files and all....

It's your operating system or a setting more than likely.
What sound card do you have?
on board sound or card?
Do you have any other sound systems like winamp on your puter taking dominance over ZC?
Without information nobody can even begin to help you.

Then it's either a bug with your drivers, or with the Allegro sound library - either way, it's out of our control.
I suppose the MIDIs work fine when played in a third-party application?

The answers to your questions:

1. My video card is SoundMAX Digital Audio. I don't know if it is WinAMP that is "taking control" of ZC, but I very rarely use it, but never when I use ZC/ZQuest. "on board sound or card?" It's probably a card, but I don't know honestly.

2. It's just NSF and GBS files that does this, don't know about MIDIs.

3. It works fine on WinAmp, but on the ZC built-in music player for GBS and NSF files, it doesn't work. It was working in beta 584, but was broken in 624. I don't know if it is just me who has this problem, but if it's beyond the developers' help, I understand.
