Well here it is DarkDragon as per request, one test quest. Every screen is supposed to have at LEAST 7 zora's in it.
9 screen overworld
9 screen dungeon

Zora quest

What is the bug though?
What exactly are you saying should happen that isn't happening, and what are you comparing it to?
I don't remember a single screen in LOZ that had 7 zora's in it.
What I'm thinking is;
If I'm not mistaken Zora's have spawn points.
Predetermined spots on the screen.
If there isn't water at that spawn point they can't spawn.
Is this how it works DN, _L_, DarkDragon?

I'm not sure what it is exept that sometimes there are zora's, sometimes there aren't, and sometimes there are then there aren't.

I'm pretty sure there isn't an exact pre-determined`spawning point and if there isn't water there then they don't spawn. I see what you mean though, because they do seem to spawn in the same location on a screen by screen basis. I use zora's ALOT, often many of them in rooms with little water, so I don't think that can be it.

It's unpassworded, just see for yourself. There are many zora enemies that aren't spawning. ;p

That's what I was telling you about earlier, when I went through this in Search for Elise.
That was a long time ago, 2004 I think, and I remember that's how it was explained to me, but I'm interested to hear it again.
I don't have to "see it for myself", I believe you, it's acted that way for me many times, I'm just not sure it is supposed to act differently. 😉
Somebody that knows for sure will stick their head in here before long, it's not going anywhere. 😉

Right. hehe...you know I could never get the damned things to work either.

My curiosity for this has just peaked I think. It's like finaly getting an answer to the age old question that was never asked in the first place. :googly:

I hope we can get a reply soon... 😃

Okay! Zoras successfully appear in all screens except for the top right.

Why is that? It may use "Enter From Sides (Random)", but so does the middle left screen.

The difference, it seems, is that the top-right screen has solid combos all along the top side.

Fixing!

Uhh, wait a minute here _L_. I'm gonna have to be the goose on this one and tell you that that's not entirely correct. Remember that each screen is supposed to have AT LEAST 7 zora's in it.
And remember that sometimes when you leave a screen and come back the zora's sometimes dissapear that way also.

This happens alot in the dungeon portion of the test. Here is the rundown I just encountered playing through it just now:

O= zora's seemed to show up
X= Bug! Zora's dissapear.

It's weird but I thought it was different the first time through...odd.

Anyway you need to check it again.

My apologies - I somehow didn't notice that there was a dungeon section.

Now, what could be causing the Zoras in those trap rooms to vanish?

It's not only Zora's that are vanishing.
When I was testing those shieldless darknuts the other day, after breaking shields and splitting one, I had 4 on the screen, stepped out and back in, and they were gone gone gone.

I think that's a different issue.

Each screen keeps track of the number of enemies killed on that screen. If this count is equal to the number of enemies in the enemy list, no enemies are spawned on the screen.

With splitting enemies, killing the "parent" counts as a kill, while killing children does not. Thus if there is one splitting darknut on the screen, and you split it, leave, and come back, no enemies will spawn. This behavior is intentional.

EDIT: See http://www.armageddongames.net/forums//thread/98581/&highlight=splitting

I'll confirm this as well, not sure what causes it, but it seems to be totally random. Different screen specs and settings and all that just seem to do it out of the blue.

It should be noted that rocks do this as well.
