Moldorm not respecting dungeon boss flag?

11 replies · 1,962 views · Started 16 August 2007

Originally set "enemies alway's return", enemies->secret, and dungeon boss flag in the room. But they all kept coming back.

Then just changed it to dungeon boss flag, but the moldorms still come back instantly.

This might have something to do with the "never returns after death" box, and if moldorms normally have this enabled. (I can't remember) All the other enemies stay dead though.

EDIT: Well this is an interesting turn of events. The "never returns after death" box WAS checked. There's something else right there. ;p

I think Moldorms might comeback whatever you do.
This was discussed once before, I think DN needs to see this before calling it a bug, I seem to remember him commenting of this in the past.

I don't remeember them alway's coming back. I have taken great liberties to try and get rid of them after they die. Nothing works. This has to be a bug. At the very least the "never returns after death" box isn't working for them.

Download cdawgs dreams of yesterday and go down in the swamp.
They'll have you pulling your hair out. 😉

Yes Freedom, I wan't all these bug posts to die also, but in various 1.90, 1.92 quests, along with the official quests, they are supposed to never return. I mean the "never returns after death" box is checked, and the room type is "boss". I don't know what else to do. I never had this problem before, and what am I to do? More workarounds? This is getting stupid. I have to constantly redo the same levels over, and over again because some things aren't working how I need them too. Especially for something as simple as moldorm type enemies, and for something that's suppose to stay dead as per earlier builds.

Are you sure DoY didn't have 'moldorm' as screen enemy1, thus when you killed one and returned, it would reload enemy 1 and replace another enemy type. or the "boss trick".

No, what I'm saying is just because you want them to act a certain way and they don't, doesn't mean it has to be a bug.
I'm not sure if it's a bug or not, but the two enemies you are questioning have always acted in strange ways.
I don't want your thread to disappear if it is indeed a bug but if it's not then it shouldn't be worried to death over forever either.

Certain enemies have certain behaviors.
Gels will return if you step out of the screen for 30 seconds and right back in as fast as you can, where Goryia's will wait for you to go several screens away and then return
Some boss types never return, like Gleeoks, where Gohma's do.
Some enemies respect the enemy screen flags for positioning like mobins, while others like red Leevers will not.
Zora's have always spawned strangely, and moldorms have always come back and ignored all unwalkable combos.
So like I said above DN just needs to look at this, because I believe this has all been discussed before. 😉

Well here's an unexpected turn of events. Aparently moldorms are supposed to stay dead. And some goodies:

-Enter from sides somehow cancels the effect of
a) boss flag, or
b) "never returns after death"...or both, I dunno.

-Lanmola still won't co-operate either(but that has another thread)
-Bubbles in boss rooms won't respawn after the enemies in that room die.(also completely unimportant, I just never knew that.)

We'll need to ask DN exactly how the Moldorm works; I strongly suspect it behaves differently than other bosses for NES compatibility reasons.

DN and I worked on this bug, and determined that the only bug is that the boss flag and "never return" enemy flag are not respected when loading enemies from the sides. Fixed in the next build.

This one's persistant. 😞

in 579 what happens is the enemies never return after you kill them with enter from sides and boss flag....sounds good so far, right? Well enemies->secrets isn't being triggered when you re-enter the room,(not sure about triggers) and shutters don't open as well. So Link is stuck with no way to proceed. This could definately break any older quest with the same setup.
