When you boot up ZClassic to play a quest, the down time between the fire screen, the Zelda title screen, the menu screen, and ... everything esle, really ... is really, really long. It goes black for like 10 seconds between each.
Slllllooooowww llllooooaaadddiiinggg
Loading time is a function of the loading times of all of the quests in your save file. Each of these quests is loaded at startup, as well as the default quest template.
The bulk of the time is taken decrypting and decompressing quests, so I'm not sure what can be done, short of drastically changing the .qst file format.
I have noticed this. 2.10 loads quickly but the builds load very slowly. Do what you can DarkDragon.
This problem occured the first time I ran ZQuest's latest build. Before there were any saves. So it can't be the qst file.
the 1st.qst file was updated and is now like triple the size... this most likely explains some part of the slowness... i still dont see why they cant just load quests when you choose them from quest selection instead of loading them prior to there then loading the quest you chose again when you choose it at quest selection -.-
Yea, this latest build has slowed down.
It's slow waiting for the AGN flames, and then when it goes to the intro screen the LOZ music starts right away but the screen remains black for about 10 seconds or so, and until it appears you can't do anything but wait.

This is why I use Sean's ZC-Launcher's option "Skip Logo." (Also attainable by adding -fast to the end of the executable's Target line.) Saves some time.
I keep thinking that one solution would be to delete a lot of tiles in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd quest that aren't being used. I'm not really sure why I'm thinking that though. X x.
Then if you're using the skip logo you wouldn't have noticed this change and would be of no help bug testing this area right?
I think the better option is to get what is there running as efficiently as possible, and then let those folks that want to strip out quests and bypass logo's do that if they want to.
My point was SOMETHING changed in the last beta, as C-Dawg correctly pointed out. 😉
I only have one 500kb quest saved, so it can't be that. Also a big delay when saving.
I remember the 300'sbuilds being way faster.
Perhaps you could implement a loading bar, just for fun. (Job for _L_ if he gets bored)
Grab the qst.dat from 2.10 and copy it into the latest build. Does that fix the speed issue? If so, the problem is simply the size of modern quest files. If that turns out to be the problem, I'll see what I can do about decreasing .qst sizes.
lol its more then tripled in size that file 😊 maybe sync the music to the title screen better? IE have music start when the title actually appears instead of when loading starts.
