What gives? In the most recent beta, the game's normally snappy scrolling now looks like ass when you're scrolling north and south.

Quest rule - smooth vertical scrolling
If you're playing a quest saved after b16, you will need to go into ZQuest and set Smooth Scrolling on.
The new choppy scrolling was added as a NES compatibility measure.
