I am very pleased to anounce this once again, as i'm very sure you are equally as happy to read it. ;-(
-Vertical scrolling: Seems to scroll one too many pixels then quickly adjust back one pixel once the screen becomes active. Very clunky and akward looking. I have not tried this with the new smooth rule yet, however it is happening on older quests, so I felt no need to test it.
-Fast scrolling: Anyone notice this? hehe...it's fast alright. Check it out. Older quests also exhibit the same behavior previously mentioned. Again untested with newer rule.

That's what I was told to implement. I'm not touching it until there is firm consensus of how NES scrolling
really works.

Fast scrolling has two effects:
1) Dungeon scrolling is performed at the same speed as overworld scrolling.
2) The 32-frame "hesitation" before scrolling beings is eliminated, both on the overworld and in dungeons.
I think both of these behaviors are correct in the latest build - normal overworld vertical scrolling is fast (8 pixels/frame) but again I was told that's the way scrolling worked on the NES.
On the other hand, all quests from before b16 are suppose to have the new smooth scrolling rule on; please post the older quest if it is misbehaving.
OK, two things:
1-
Seems to scroll one too many pixels then quickly adjust back one pixel once the screen becomes active
Is this supposed to be disabled in older quests/quest rule on?
2-
The 32-frame "hesitation" before scrolling beings is eliminated, both on the overworld and in dungeons.
This in conjucture with the other might explain the shock value. It's looking better than the last in any case. And also is this supposed to be off for quests with the smooth rule checked? ..or older quests?
I am in uncharted waters it seems.
Maybe i'll dig up a NES LOZ rom also...
games made back in 2.10 and older will have the original LOZ style scrolling.
Ahh, Sofar this is what I have gathered:
1) Smooth scrolling is set as enabled for custom quests, right? worked on one of my newer quests, a 2.10 quest, but not 1.92 quest.(jq1 i believe) -I've only tried this three times thus far.
2) Fast scrolling just seems much faster than it used to be. I might be confused as to whether the smooth scrolling rule is supposed to make screen transitions behave the way they used to in previous zc builds, or if this has completely been rewritten and is gone forever.
*The one pixel thing, I noticed it going down on a screen but not up in the NES game.....? Can anyone tell me i'm wrong?

Umm.....

Ah, yes, the "new" smooth scrolling rule restores scrolling to how it has been in previous versions of ZC (instead of how it is done on the NES), which might be contributing to confusion. It should be on by default in all quests prior to b16.
If quests with the smooth scrolling rule on behave differently than in previous builds, that's a bug.

I see now. So once again two things with smooth scrolling:
1) Quests still have the one frame vertical snapback issue afforementioned with "smooth scrolling" on.
2) Fast scrolling still seems too fast with the smooth rule on. Maybe due to the above mentioned? I don't know.
-Fella's...don't be shy. If your reading this, I could use alternate feedback. This is new to me, and I really tire of these screen scrolling issues.
Are you sure about 1)? I'm not seeing any snapback if the Smooth Scrolling quest rule is on.
OK, as for no1 i'm getting mixed results here.
I've Set different combinations of said flags in proposed 1,2,and 3rd quests. Everything works as i'm understanding it should. The smooth scrolling rule looks perfect BTW.
Then tested a 2.10 quest (insert quest title here), and 1.92 quest (JQ1), and it's obviously broken.
-Also with all this screen scrolling hubub, no one's bothered to say good job implementing all this. So let me be the first, and hopefully the last. Haha!
Fixed in the next build, but the problem with old quests was subtle and required a drastic fix - see the change log.
Sweet, Thank you! 😊
Which leaves everything else mentioned an NES issue. Have fun with that, and this is where I retire from the scrolling business. 😉
PS: Any chance in a new build soon?
Dead. 528- custom quests of old preserved.
