The fading of the "Zelda Classic" and "Zelda Classic 2.5" title screens is too slow on certain video cards (graphics adapter) as well as the screen turning red and fade in the death sequence with interpolated fading quest rule ON.
I use an "NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200". It works with ZC.
EDIT: By the way, I am playing using 640 X 480 resolution in fullscreen. My card cannot use 320 X 240 in fullscreen, ZC crashes or automatically switches to 640 X 480 in fullscreen.
I also noticed that the FPS is a little below 60 when actively playing a quest with my current video card.
More info: The brand name of the "NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200" is XFX using Microsoft latest drivers and this card has 256 MB DDR.
Bummer, but uh... what do you want me to do about it?
Interpolated fading is an Allegro method; if it's slow on your hardware you'll need to acquire better hardware, play in windowed more, avoid quests with interpolated fading, and/or ignore the slowdown.
use nvidia drivers, they are vastly better unless you use vista.
Sorry, Franpa. I am running on Windows Vista.
Both of you, guess I am gonna have to live with it...
New information, see post #7.
well then the bug is simply caused by the fact the program never was coded for vista and the chances for vista support reaching the same level as windows XP would be ages away.
Yes. Allegro support for Vista seems to be sketchy at best at the moment; if they ever upgrade the library of course we'll incorporate it into ZC.
I'm going to put this thread in Bugs in Limbo, as it could be investigated if we ever ditch Allegro.
Anyone,
I found an NVIDIA driver for Windows Vista and had upgraded to that driver. Now I use NVIDIA instead of the Microsoft driver. And that driver actually let me run ZC and ZQ (even ROMView) in fullscreen with 320 x 240 resolution.
It was the Microsoft driver that made ZC and ZQ crash. Now that I have upgraded it, it is fine.
But still, even when ZC is on fullscreen with 320 x 240 resolution on this video card with the new driver, FPS is too slow when Link is dying while screen is red and fades with interpolated fading quest rule ON.
