I don't want to beat a dead horse but... GB is dead and long gone?

Just curious. It was one of the things that kept me coming back here, but I'm sure zelda classic should keep me some ties for now, and sheer nostalgia.

But yeah, was it decided that it wasn't good for the image?
I just hate that forums are such a proper bastard. At least we don't have a word filter, or any rediculous gayness, like a number of other forums I frequent. *shrug*

Just curious, I don't really want to revive a long dead debate unless it's sheerly constructive.

Why don't you flag yourself for general bitching...

/gb

And now we can all flame you without breaking the rules, and thus it will be General Bitching wherever you happen to be on the forums!

I do miss GB. It was one of the most interesting things to "do" at AGN. I don't even feel that it's helped much, as people still find excuses to flame inside and out even without it. The Rep System, Spammers, occasional posts that borderline trolling or flaming, (From the well-established staff, even.) and more. It's not like there's a surefire way to say that those are unavoidable, as even with GB, unless you were really hated, you had to actually participate to get some sort of flamish feedback.

The official one has been gone for over a year and it's unlikely to come back any time soon.

However, Glenn is trying to start a miniature one in here. Maybe others will join in and follow suit.

Goki killed it when he became an admin.

To be honest it wasn't even worth keeping around after Breaker, Nightmare, and Darth Cronic made their peace/got banned.

If GB came back it would be nothing more than everyone trying to flame Glenn or bitch about the younger members that will remain unnamed.

GB was fucking stupid. It reminds me of a terrible day time Jerry Springer-esque fight show. Just trashy and unsatisfying.

GB was the place to go to argue with nerds on the internet who cared less about listening to what you had to say than they did about replying with a few curse words and perhaps a few mediocre burns. Then you'd get pissed because they didn't listen to you and respond by ignoring their post and posting mediocre burns, possibly with a lot of profanity thrown in to show everyone how big you are.

If you really want to simulate the experience I guess go join the GameFAQs forums or some other godawful hive of stupid.

The best GB thread, and perhaps best thread of all AGN, was Breaker's "Top 10 Sign's you are a Newbie" thread which was eventually expanded to something like 50. Ironically enough, he fucked up and posted the original thread in Forum Staff, and had to go find an administrator to move it for him.

It was a fucking cesspool for all of the morons who thought they had something to prove by forcing themselves to say some of the most idiotic things to ever come out of the mouths of stupidity. It's long gone, been long gone, and I for one hope it never comes back.

We don't need it.

(The version that was around in like late '01, early '02 was the best. I might have the time wrong, but you know which one I am talking about)

I find it mildly ironic that the first two posts in this thread were the main subjects of GB.

Just an observation.

That's the thing. And it gave this forum something setting it apart from other forums - verbal freedom.

But you know, horse beaten, ect.

I don't really see the need for GB at this point. It seems like this forum isn't really 'nice-nice for the sake of being nice-nice' anymore, if it ever was, and as long as you can call people out on bullshit or stupidity without having a finger shaken at you for flaming, then you don't even need a GB style forum.

That's exactly why I like this forum, AlexMax just pinned it perfectly. Most forums out there [that I used to be a part of] were like a children's video game, everyone was just candy-coated nice. Nice nice nice nice. Many people here at AGN are not afraid of being completely honest. It's like real life, almost. And the best part is that we don't have to be politically correct. 😃

But my personal view on GB is that if you didn't like it or want to be flamed, just don't go there. When GB's plug was pulled, I was a little concerned that GD was going to transform into GB, but it seems to not have.

I'm with Alex and Pinecone. I appreciate that I'm able to be frank about things here, and not get banned for it.

But yeah, the horse has been overbeaten so much that it isn't there anymore, long since haven been beaten to dust and blown away in the wind or carried off by ants.

Of course PunkonJunk,

If you truely wish to have something reminiscant of the old General Bitiching, you'll probably come close by starting a thread about furries.

Hey, didn't see you there, walking in from left field.

AGN has, in the past, been a little too "THESE are the rules and you BETTER follow them." Especially in regards to flaming and 'going off topic' Recently I've seen these two being a little bit more relaxed, and AGN has benefitted from it.

Does that make sense?

Of course it makes sense. I never had any trouble grasping what was being said in the thread. I was, instead, making a reference to certain GB threads that select individuals will remember well.

Trev: smite them for being non-believers!

or something.

😛

and as far as the rules go. almost all of us have gotten older and matured. so it's like civilized, or what have you.

Yeah. All the old members are older (except Masa :P ) and all the younger members are just retarded (reflecting the state of America, where 50 percent of kids age 11-16 are way the fuck dumber than their counterparts 5 years ago. It's science.) (parentheses) [brackets] {I don't know what these are} <Animorph>

I remember this post in GB called my toes, fuckin hilarious whoever posted it was a genius.

oh wait, it was me, and one of the steps to me getting banned.

Scary shit is, I'm gonna be an adult in about 5 months. Then I won't look as badass when I hang out on corners and smoke cigarettes. Not that smoke cigarettes. Or hang out on corners just trying to get by. :x

Seriously though, dude. I think I've matured to a degree.

{These are called braces, Dechipher.}

And you bring up an interesting point about 11-16 year-olds. The grade under me (they're, well, 15/16 year-olds) is soooo much worse than my grade. More druggies, more morons, more intense emos, etc. Less smart people. Like me.

I've noticed this trend as well. However, were it true, my parents and their friends should be geniuses: contradiction.

I hope I'm reading this wrong, but are you saying you are mature because you smoke?

My take on it is that of course he is going to say he's matured because really, it's a hard line to take to say that you haven't matured.

phattonez wrote:I hope I'm reading this wrong, but are you saying you are mature because you smoke?

Maybe I presented that joke poorly. I don't like cigarettes. I merely suggesting that smoking isn't as cool when you turn 18.

Your jokes are just too good for all of us. Lol, when you turn 18 there's no rebellion, but is it really ever cool? I guess to some people, but I just can't stand the smell.

It's not over yet. He still has ways to look cool for awhile. For the next 3 years he can stand stand at the corner drinking alcohol.

Then after he's done with that, he can spend the next 14 years running for President.
