Flippers issue when entering water - build 443

When you have the flippers you don't always enter the water when pressing against it. It's almost like it doesn't realize you have the flippers. If you back off and try again, you will usually enter the water on the second or third attempt. This doesn't happen every time, but it will happen quite often. I was playing a 2.10 quest.

You can download the quest I was playing from this page. I was mainly experiencing this problem in the Hyrule Field area. It is north of the run down town that has thunder and lightning in it. Try entering the different water areas, at times you won't enter the water. At first I thought it could be an issue with the combos, but I was using the flippers on a previous build and I didn't experience this problem. I am wondering if it is somehow related to the new changes made with the swimming speed.

I can't walk onto a half-water tile from the north or south. Is this bug what you've been experiencing? I'm not having any other problems.

It wasn't just that. I would be on the middle tile and have issues entering water as well. Maybe it has to do with not being square on the grid so therefore it's not detecting the water and/or flippers? I will go back and see if I can get some screen shots if you need them to show you where I was experiencing the problem.

EDIT: Take a look at this screen shot.

I think the problem lies with the bottom left corner water tiles. Either they are not working correctly or the combo is somehow setup incorrectly.

erm,
you need to right click on that tile and see if it is indeed set to water, if that's the only tile effecting you.
It might be that someone just forgot to make it a water combo.

Just checked in ZQuest, and you're right, Freedom. Quest author error.

However, while we're on the topic of flipper bugs, there's still the matter of trying to walk up or down into a water/no-water boundary. In Z3 movement Link get shunted onto whichever tile is water in such cases; in Classic movement, however, Link just stands there. I suppose that's a bug?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean there, I have big Link and Z3 and haven't noticed any real trouble, but maybe I'm not doing exactly what you are describing.
exactly what do I need to do to try and see this?

OK, thanks guys. I just didn't notice the error in a previous build and then I ran into it here with build 443. Since it's not my quest I couldn't check to see if it was a user error or not.

In your quest, find a water tile that's to the right or left of a walkable tile, and walk up or down right at the boundary of the two tiles. Link, after a short hesitation, will sidestep into the water tile.

Now turn off Z3 movement and repeat the above. Link won't do any sidestepping, and will just stand there stuck even though the two tiles in his way would both individually be passable.

Link only "hesitates" before entering water in Z3 movement mode, so I'm not sure what to do in this situation in Classic mode.

mmm take the zelda 3 style of approach due to it being the first time most ever encountered the flippers... and flippers never existed in the original... im sorry if this suggestion breaks older quests.

I think you should let it be, seems given the choice in real life the person would always fall in the water too. 😊

OK, I'm not going to touch anything until someone complains, as there is no real precedent for how water is suppose to work in Z1 anyway.

I think it would work out better, I remember when Jman was still getting big Link operational that he wouldn't side step when he came to a solid object, like I believe you were referring to above, and it resulted in him being a pain to control, like getting in doorways and such.
He's not perfect I'm sure, but he seems to work pretty good to me.
