I have made a custom Sword, Level 5 (Called Sword - Aquarius Bubble). Matches the Level 4 sword EXACTLY, except for level. But when the player has the Level 5 sword, nothing appears in the item box. And the item doesn't do anything. And any lower level swords are not available.
Heres the quest file

Beta 346
Unverified! Maybe you should try it in a higher beta?
Still a problem in the latest beta. And as I recall, at least one other person had this problem. Check the Beta forums.
Same quest file verifies bug.
Two things come to mind, though not necessarily even related to each other. Both will mostly likely end up being relatively worthless in the grand scheme of things, but are still worth mentioning.
1) The ""Equipment" checkbox is checked?
2) It'd be nice to have a button somewhere in the Item Editor that creates a duplicate of some item, similar to how the Windows Copy function works. (Highlight something, do a Ctrl+C then a Ctrl+V.) It'd be the same item, only with a "Copy" appended as a suffix. You could then do whatever you'd like to it, under the assumption that whatever breaks in-game is your fault for manipulating things in ZQuest, and would have to change its level on your own.
I had this same problem, with the level 5 sword, coincidentally. I think that I was the one C-Dawg was referring to... anywho, I only get this problem with the sword, NOT the shield, or anything else for that matter. The equipment box is checked, by the way.
Yes, equipment is checked.
My sword works fine. and i'm on build 424.hmmmmm.😕
Do you mind telling us what the EXACT attributes of your level 5 sword are? It might be easier if you post images of the tabs in the editor. I'm just curious to see if it's something I've done wrong, or a bug. Also, did you make it from scratch, or edit a preexisting sword? It think that it's only the made from scratch swords that are faulty.
He's posted the quest in question, so he doesn't have to.
Still hasn't been fixed. I make a level 5 sword in the 564 and collect it, but it is not usable. It also renders any previous swords unusable.
A workaround would be to make the "A" button item selectable. The sword will work.
That does make it work. However, if a person wanted to have custom swords without using that rule, they should be able to.
Tested this in 572 (571 whatever), and I get similar results as I did before. I put down a Level 9 sword for Link to pickup, got it gave me my Level 8 sword (odd) and, upgradeing the sword seems to make Link lose his slash ability (very odd) So... not entirely fixed 😞
Could you please post that quest?
Sure DD, I'll put the quest up in a minit and then PM you the link (Don't want everyone to get their hands on my unfinished masterpiece 😃)
EDIT: Oops silly me, I forgot to check that little box that says 'Use Slash Tiles' :googly:
okay that was my fault (don't throw large objects at me)
But the Tile for the sword is still wrong The graphic shown for my Lev 1 sword is showing another Lev 1 sword (I have one set of swords that shoots beams and one set that don't) And the Level 9 sword is still showing the tile for the Lev 8 sword (same non-beam type) anyway I will still PM you the quest if you want to check it out.
Sounds good.
If you have two level 1 swords, all bets are off - Link always equips the sword he owns of the highest level, and if there are two such swords which one he'll use is undefined.
Yea, I was thinking this may be the problem, but I am going to carefully setup the scripting for the quest so Link will never posess 2 of the same Level sword at once (the beam swords are only a tempory upgrade sort of akin to the 'piece of power' in LA) So hopefully this will circumvent the problem of haveing 2 swords of the same level. I sent the PM so hopefully you can find the problem. I was thinking it may be the same (or similar) to the 'shows tile 0 when Link has no sword' bug.
I've found the problem - your level 9 sword is really level 8.
The subscreen only identifies items by their family and level, one part of a larger set of limitations involving the subscreen and custom items, which have already been reported.
Well it was a level 9, I just tested it I set the sword to lev 9 then hit ok and opened the properties for lev 9 sword again and magically its lev 8 (I am guessing it is a limitation we can only go up to lev 8) if this is true i will have to rethink a few things for my quest, if it can be fixed please do so 😊
This is a totaly different problem so i am going to report a new bug
