Finishing a custom quest - build 378

11 replies · 2,707 views · Started 16 June 2007

After finishing my custom quest and restarting the file, I have all my items except for the rings and my heart containers are back down to 3. What is supposed to be happening because I don't remember seeing that before. Is the quest supposed to reset back to the beginning or am I supposed to retain all my life and equipment?

Well, according to NES Zelda, yes.

But maybe a quest rule is in order?

Alot of custom quests have optional lv10 dungeouns, if your hearts get reset to 3, this would render them unplayable. If a quest rule it is, then it should be checked by default for custom quests.

Yes, i believe that is correct. However in ZC you retain all hearts and items.

Since we are talking about custom quests, I believe you should have everything you had when the game ended. That should include money, hearts, items, etc. Think of LttP as a precedent to that one. After you beat Ganon, you would start again right outside the Pyramid with all items in tact.

However, since the 1st quest is supposed to follow in line with Z1, you should start from the beginning with nothing but 3 hearts to start the 2nd quest, and again to start Alphadawg's 3rd quest.

Does that make sense?

i presume the game stays beaten IE: you can't save after beating the game thus unless you erase your game, you will always start with what you had prior to beating the quest.

i am talking about what happens after beating the 2nd quest on the NES.

On the NES after you beat the 2nd quest it starts you over with nothing at the beginning of the 2nd quest. I just don't think that's the behavior that most people would want with custom quests though.

Finishing a quest now resets your hearts and rings only if the quest was official.
Barring objections, I see no need for a quest rule.
