build 337 windows - this runs 1.90 quests perfectly smoothly BUT every 10 - 20 seconds i get huge spurts of lag, if you ignore this you will see that there are 10 second gaps where everything is absolutely perfectly 100% smooth.

build 500 windows - same as build 337.

build 584 windows - runs with a constant level of lag or frame loss but is not massive. it is like using a super nintendo emulator at a display frequency other then 60hz and with vsync turned on.

edit: visualboy advance runs horribly for me lol it never displays perfectly smoothly for me either... http://www.filespace.org/nitsuja/vba-rerecording-20.zip but mednafen (a multiple machine emulator) works flawlesly if you exclude the fact that vsync fails to work in windowed mode and that fullscreen is screwed. but mednafen uses openGL and SDL and not a directX related renderer or Allegro.

is there a screen capture program that can capture openGL video?

Could you please determine which build between 500 and 584 the constant level of lag first appeared?

between build 500 and build 508, what changed? the vertical/horizontal scrolling in build 500 is like build 337 but the scrolling in build 508 (the very next public build) is pretty damn close to that of build 584.

i might be distracted by the non smooth screen scrolling which might be causeing the illusion that the whole game isnt running smoothly. this issue also affects opening and closing the subscreen.

edit: wait please.

OK !

build 339 has flawless scrolling and animations. but every 10 to 20 seconds there is horrendous lag that affects everything.

build 346 has constant lag but the lag is only weak and nothing as severe as what is experienced in 339.

wait 1 minute and watch the frame rate drop down from the thousands to the 900's.
build 339 runs uncapped at 934 - 938fps~
build 346 runs uncapped at 927 - 932fps~

Ok, that old beta was where I switched from the old to the new timing system, which is more uniform on all machines, but at the expense of taking up 100% CPU cycles.

I hate to sound callous, but if performance is laggy and has been so since 346, the best remaining solution is to upgrade your video card, or run ZC in windowed mode, or close programs running in the background.
Maybe after the total rewrite in the distant future performance will be better, but for now features such as interpolated fading, transparent layers, and FFCs are just more demanding of your system than ZC use to be with simpler features.

disabling direct draw hardware acceleration via dxdiag solves my performance issues. i would still like a test build that logs how long it takes to draw each frame so that i can research how much of an improvement is made.

um yea... what was that thing that logged the milliseconds of something? you made me a test build quiet a while ago which logged something, perhapse the timing system?

yea DD, you know how i get weird jerkiness? well turning off hardware acceleration (in dxdiag) does remove this jitter but it does so by not keeping the screen in sync IE: the screen tears whenever the jitter would normally occur.

it is vastly easier to put up with tho.

100% solved, DD was correct in blaming my video card xD. i got a new card (in my signature) and a thermaltake 750w toughpower power supply.
