Should be 1/2 heart.
293: Guy fires are doing 1/4 heart damage again :p
Actually, I don't think this was ever fixed.
What do you mean by guy fires? The fireballs that shoot at you in info rooms if you attack the guy?
No...the fireballs are actually doing 1/2 heart, as they should.
It's the flames themselves, from which the fireballs are shot, that are doing only 1/4.
Pardon my ignorance, but how do I walk into the fires? I thought ZC forced the player to stay on the bottom half of the screen in info rooms.
load a quest that uses freeform dungeon then ;P

Your ignorance is forgiven. In NES Zelda, only two rooms allowed you to walk into the fires - Feed the Goriya, and Level 9 Gate - and then only when the guy had been dispatched.
Aha, thank you.
Fixed in the next build.
oh lol, forgot about that xD
Or you could use the candle to knock yourself past the barrier and into the fires, in rooms with the barrier. That's how I usually did it back in the NES days; I forgot about those two exceptions, as well.
If you use that trick on the NES, are you able to freely walk around in the upper area? If so, ZC doesn't let you, so that's a NES compatibility bug you should report 😉
Hmm...that's a good question, I don't remember exactly how that worked...o_O
*checks in a shop*
Interesting...it seems you can walk freely left, right, or down...but not up.
Unless you're in the top row (right under the top wall), which doesn't let you move any way but down; if you try any other direction, Link just acts like he's trying to walk up. 😮dd:
*checks in first quest level 7*
...but strangely, candle knockback won't even get me past the barrier in the GRUMBLE, GRUMBLE... room. LOL
Gonna go check some other dungeon rooms now. Namely I BET YOU'D LIKE TO HAVE MORE BOMBS and LEAVE YOUR LIFE OR MONEY...I suspect the latter also has a tougher barrier like the hungry Goriya room. 😛
EDIT: Well, how about that...it seems that every guy room in dungeons has the tough barrier. Maybe the programmers found the candle glitch, but only bothered fixing it in the dungeons because "screen 80" never had any other rooms connected to it? o_O
I can confirm it's dead in b311. The fire does 1/2 of a heart damage.
