Not sure if it is a bug, but I feel it needs to be adressed.
OK, in Zelda Classic, MIDI's sound fine volume wise. MP3's however, don't. I use MP3's in my quest as "Alternate Music". More often than not, I have to do the following:
1) Convert MP3's to WAV's
2) Open up a sound editing program (Cool Edit PRO)
3) Open the WAV file I previously converted
4) Amplify it as much as possible before it sounds distorted
5) Save it, and convert back to an MP3
I make a copy of the file, and when I go back into Zelda Classic, I still have to turn down the SFX volume, and turn my speakers up. This goes for ZQuest too.
Long Story Short: Wether it's a bug or intended behaviour, MP3's/Non-MIDI's sound to faint in ZC/Q. If possible, make it so Non-MIDI's sound louder in both programs.
Try opening up your volume control and make sure all the different options are turned on (not muted) and turned up. It could be your sound settings.

i doubt this is the reason, i remember trying SPC files in a much earlier build, beta 10b i think, and they where rather quiet there as well.
Erm: I checked, and tested this "Bug" and it's not caused by me. ZC/Q Plays Non-MIDI's rather quietly.
Will this be fixed? or has it been already?

.
That is not the case! This problem goes back to 2.10.
There is no way anyone would program this intentionaly. It must have been an oversight, and I for one have been frustrated with this for years.
Please...somebody fix this....I beg of you.
There's no way to adjust the volume, like there is with the midis.
I feel your pain, I have to do the exact same thing and amplify them in cool edit.
If you listen to the mp3 out of Zelda Classic it is much louder.
I don't know if this would be considered a bug or not, but I can confirm that behavior.
MP3's and other music formats have been removed and are to be added again after a stable 2.50 has been released.
😮dd: I never got that memo.
Franpa,
This is the second time now you've said that.
MP3's can STILL BE ADDED via loading them on the dmap, and what it says above is true, the volume is reduced when being played through ZC over what it was in another player outside ZC.
You're confusing two different things and that confusion is likely to let a bug slip through. 😉
Alternate music is not working for me (509). I assign the MP3 to a DMap, yet I hear the MIDI. In 254, the MIDI would play if the MP3 was not found. On top of that, ZC/Q thought that the Desktop was the folder it was in because it would not play MP3's in the folder I had it in, only the desktop. Finally, back in 509, MP3's will not play, period. I have all the MP3's in the same folder in ZC, it's parent folder (the one you end up in when you click "up" in explorer) and thje desktop, yet all I hear is the MIDI's. I have tried removing the MIDI's from the DMap, but to no avail.
This is strange.
I have 8 in my quest, and they all work right.
They have right up through the 500, 509, and now the 528.
Do you have Zelda Classic running from your desktop?
Can you open windows explorer and see all of your files for Zelda Classic in one folder?
Did you set it up yourself or use Sean's installer?
I think we can fix this. 😉
DarkDragon spoke in a thread a while ago now that they are too tricky to maintain and would be added again after the stable build.... maybe only specific formats got removed?
if support for MP3's and other music formats stay, then i guess i'll agree with the audio volume.
I think formats like spc and a few others were attempted but were removed. mp3s have worked since 2.10 as Freedom has pointed out so that feature won't be tossed out if it was in the other version.
I'm fully aware of when initial support for MP3's was added and i think your right on SPC, NSF and tracker file support being removed.

I think it was koopa; he's the most knowledgeable about the music system. I certainly don't remember removing any formats, in any case.
This thread isn't even about that though.
It started out about the volume, which can't be adjusted in the program at this time, then it progressed to they won't work at all.
see what he says here;

What I truly believe is happening here is that Major's_Wrath's program isn't seeing the mp3 files because they aren't actually in the same folder, running Zelda Classic from the desktop, to me, is the worst possible way to use it, if that's how he is doing it and it sorta looks that way from here.
It should be in it's own folder, mine I have on the D:/ drive, and then all related files should be in that folder with it, not in some parent folder, with other folders of other versions, if you catch my drift.
ALL versions should have their own folders and all files needed for quests played in that version need to be in that folder.
So I don't believe either one of these are an actual bug. 😉

oh yea, i was struggling to think of the person... i hardly see him around these days...
Scratch that, MP3's work now. The problem was this:
ZC was ORIGINALLY in this directory (ZC 509) Directory "A"
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\TLOZHOTMS\New Folder (2)
I renamed a folder in that path, Like so Directory "B"
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\New Folder (6)\New Folder (2)
ZC was still trying to find MP3's in the TLOZHOTMS folder. I re named it though, because in the player, I was promted that 1st.qst could not be found in directory "A"
Bear in mind they are the exact same paths, just that a folder got re-named.

MP3's STILL SOUND MUCH TOO FAINT. THAT "BUG" IS STILL PRESENT!
