...I think. If I recall correctly, in Zelda 1, the Tektites, when they jumped too high on the screen, would appear on top of the subscreen. Well, in build 254, they would appear under the subscreen. I don't know how much sense I made there, so I have a screenshot to show what I'm talking about...

Have they ever appeared over the subscreen, in ZC?
Well I'm not sure exactly, but I just tried it in 2.10.2, and it did the same thing.
I tried it in 1.84, and the Tektites appear on top of the subscreen - I guess DN changed the behavior in 2.10.
In cases like this we should go with original NES behavior. Can anyone confirm that Tektites are supposed to appear over the subscreen?
I just checked with a ROM of Zelda I have. They do indeed appear OVER the subscreen, not under. This is a bug.
So does every sprite in the original game, apparently.
I once got Link himself to glitch into the subscreen. Instead of walking down to the next screen, he looped around and appeared at the top. 😮dd: No clue how I did it, though.
More easily reproducable test:
Go to 2nd quest level 9, screen 50. It's 2 up from the bottom left corner, with 2 red Lanmolas and 4 shooting statues.
Don't kill the Lanmolas just yet. Get in the right doorway if you entered from the top; if you came in from the right, just stay in the doorway. Inch forward until you're about half a tile out of the doorway (you can tell if you're in the right spot if, when the 2 right statues fire up/down at you, they shoot in a straight line and miss you 😛).
Now, start picking off Lanmola segments one at a time. Try to get both Lanmolas down to 1 or 2 parts each, but DON'T completely kill one...if all goes well, the statues' shots will screw up and go THROUGH the walls. 😮dd: They might even loop the screen once or twice...even vertically, in which case they'll appear over the subscreen. 😛
EDIT: Now with SKREENSHAWT ACKSHUN:

Fixed via quest rule that defaults to off (so things will be the Z1 way).
