Build 229: Just doesn't work.

Whenever I try to open either zelda-w.exe or zquest-w.exe, I get this:

The application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem.

I've tried this on other PCs, and what I've come to find is:

If the PC does not have MSVC 2005, ZC will not work!

-_- All I would like to say is... thanks for making an unneccessary change that disables ZC for many of us.

To DarkDragon: MSVC 2005 applications do not work if you don't provide the C/C++ 8.0 runtimes. Yeah, it's stupid, I know, which is why I compiled public ZC builds with mingw.

Yeah, I figured that out... that's really extremely retarded. I don't see why it can't just link statically to the CRT.

No. I think I've figured out the problem; I'm in the process of rebuilding all of the dozen+ libraries used by ZC, linking to the CRT statically. That should solve the problem, I hope :-/

Is there some temporary problem with the site where I am trying to dload the beta from or is it just my connection that is sluggish today? I can't load the page, browser says it takes too long to load the page and just informs page not found...

Yeah, I can't connect either. I'm using Sean's web space as a dump for all of the alphas, it's possible it is experiencing difficulties.

Thanks for the working link, but...

...ZC still doesn't work. 😞

I got a following error message (it's a translation of the message I got in Finnish but I hope my translation to English makes sense):

"Application Error:
Formating of application failed (0xc0150002) Terminate application by choosing OK."

Now I get an error message saying that alleg42_crt.dll is missing.

Maybe I should find that file and try again...

edit - looks like that file isn't on dll files dot com...

I renamed alleg42.dll to alleg42_crt.dll, but ZC still doesn't run (and then, of course, ZQuest won't run, since alleg42.dll's 'missing'...).

BTW, why does the Beta Discussion box state that Build 231 is available for download when the file doesn't exist?

Yeah, I just noticed that and posted under the beta discussion forum. The file for 231 isn't even uploaded on the site yet.

Sean's site was apparently down when I committed, so the files didn't successfully ship there. Let me try again.
