Room State Carry overs still not working right

18 replies · 2,609 views · Started 19 January 2007

They only work if only the dmap themselves are interior(cave) types.

When this first was introduced it would effect either dungeon or interior(cave) dmaps. Or if you had the screen option set to "treat as cave type". This is no longer the case.

This bug has been around since beta 13.

Another update.....

Roomstate carry overs are STILL not working in dungeons if you have the "treat as interior" option checked, or even if you don't.

The DMap must ALONE must be an interior type.

The Room State Carryovers still not working in Dungeon DMaps.

In my quest, the trigger screen is an interior type and only the effected screen is the dungeon type, so this carryover should work right? Well it isn't working.

Actually I'm not sure if it is even supposed to work with the Dungeon DMap type, but according to Rocksfan the carryovers used to work with DNg type DMaps and therefore they're buggy now.

But if the Carryovers are not supposed to work with Dng type, I understand as the Dng type means that everything on that Dmap is temporary, so why wouldn't the Carryovers be as well? I dunno, a bug or not but this is how it works, no biggie. 😛

Close, Petoe.

The room that trigged the secret must always be on a Interior type Dmap or be on a Dungeon Dmap with the room option "treat as interior" turned on. That works now.

The part that isn't working is, in the past, when it was first introduced, the screen that the trigger was effecting didn't matter what kind of Dmap it was. It would work either way as long as the one triggering it was set as above mentioned.

It only works on the room option "treat as interior" or interior type Dmap. If it left as a dungeon type without the option, it doesn't work. In the past it did.

Understand?

Well doh, that's what I said Rocksfan. I was just confirming the behaviour you got.

Now I don't have any idea how the Room State Carryovers are supposed to work, but if they really used to work with the destination/triggered screen being a Dng type, then I'd regard this one as a bug just like you.

But the more I think about it... why should carryovers work at all on Dng type Dmaps because Dng type means that every secret is temporary. So what I'm saying is that I wouldn't commit suicide if develoeprs decided that it's ok that carryovers won't work with Dng type. This bug can be so easily fixed by simply changing the Dmap type to Interior...

The reason why it looks like this doesn't work is because cave (interior) dmaps save perm. triggers as you know (so do overworld). To the best of my knowledge Dungeon Dmaps don't remember perm triggers. So that is why the room state carry over doesn't work. Because it looks if there was a perm trigger in the room that was a dungeon dmap, and it sees no perm trigger, so that is why it doesn't work. I think it has to be cave/overworld for it to work.

OK here is a follow up question then. If you are using a dungeon dmap and you have the screen flag checked to treat that screen as a cave room, will permanent secrets work on that screen? That sounds like it should work yet that's what Rocksfan is reporting as not working. So do permanent secrets only check for the dmap type and not the screen flag and if so, is that a bug?

No. You guys misunderstand what I'm saying.

It's not the screen that causes the trigger. It's the screen that the carryover effects. That screen should not matter what kind of dmap it is, because secrets can be triggered anywhere.

The carryovers work. They're just not effecting DNg type Dmaps that don't have the "treat as interior" option on.

The only reason it is an issue is if someone wants their effected room to have DNg type doors, since doors don't work in interior types, they would have to maually put their changes in with secrets, which also defeats the effect of the carryover.

Make sense now?

Rocksfan, it is you who is not understanding us. All the time I have been talking about the screen that gets effected, not the screen that triggers the carryover.
And my opinion remains: Why should carryovers work on Dng type DMaps if the idea of Dng type DMaps is that all secrets are temporary?
Geez, this is really complex and hard issue at hand here. 😛

Then again, RSC do have the carryover for dungeon dmap things like "Doors". So that means it should work on the dungeon dmap. It is just I don't use Dugeon dmaps at all, so that is why I didn't notice this.

Oh sorry. Didn't realise that was in fact what you were refering to.

The point behind the RSC is not to be temporary, true. It's the doors in the room that matter. The reason they should work on DNg type dmaps are the doors. Doors other than passageways do not work on a interior type dmap or when the "treat as interior" option is on.

If a author wants to have a RSC to effect a room that uses dungeon doors, it will not work. With this bug, they need to either switch the entire DMap to interior(which would throw a lot off) or set the room option "treat as interior" on.(Which forces the author to use the secrets they're trying to save RSC for to open the doors, supposing they aren't some type of locked door)

I can see a lot of newb's not being able to figure this out.

Secrets are temporary on dungeon dmaps. EVERYTHING ELSE that a room state carryover affects should work on dungeon dmaps. Just not secrets.

Which is a shame, as a lot of good dungeon puzzles can be built around RSC secrets, and like Rocksfan said it makes shutters really difficult with "Treat as Interior".

Unless somehow dungeon doors can be made to work in room of that type with some kind of screen option or quest rule.

Ok, as far as I can tell this isn't a bug.

It's not the screen that causes the trigger. It's the screen that the carryover effects. That screen should not matter what kind of dmap it is, because secrets can be triggered anywhere.

The carryovers work. They're just not effecting DNg type Dmaps that don't have the "treat as interior" option on.

The screen that triggers and the next screen it triggers must both be permitted to have permanent secrets.
If the second screen is of dungeon dmap type, it does trigger, but when you go to look it reverts back as though it was never triggered, thus the screen flag, treat as interior room MUST be checked for it to work.

So I don't believe this is a bug but just confusion on exactly how they are supposed to work.

Makes sense. But, in the past they DID work.

Now, after further inspection, they are working as designed.
I say this is no longer a bug.
