Pause the game when you're in a Dmap with the "Underwater" flag enabled. The water ripples don't rebound at the sides, and go to the very extreme possible, eventually stretching the screen into a thin strip. Try it for yourself. Pretty visually interesting.
16c: (And B254) Underwater Dmap Flag + F3:Pause.
Confirmed!
Wiiieeeerrrrdddd................
Cool tho!😃
Oddly, the same thing happens when you play the whistle in an "underwater" area.
EDIT: Not exactly the same, but it does get really skinny and then back to normal after the SFX is done playing.
Old thread. VERY old. (Relatively.) Just confirmed, and hitting F3 does not cause this bug! So that's fixed.
The whistle, however, does still cause the bug, but, it's just too cool of an effect to take out. :blah: Would make for an EXCELLENT Warpout effect.
Something related: You know how during gameplay, the top is the subscreen? On an underwater DMap, the subscreen does not ripple, but when you pause, the top does not ripple, but the bottom, where gamplay would take place, does.
I can confirm that (The subscreen wave bug), as I noticed that too. It is funny, and I can see why it does this, but it is a bug nonetheless.
I did some work on the underwater wave effect in the last build. What is the status of these bugs?
As of Builds 660, pausing the game makes all of the screen motion stop. Holding F4 to advance the frames one by one does NOT allow the screen to achieve the wavy effect. I'm sure it's no big deal though. In fact, I would say it's practically preferred, because it allows the player to take undistorted screenshots. Not sure how many people would like that though.
As for the whistle, I'll keep testing that. The whistle did absolutely nothing when I had tried it, but I had all sound turned off, so it probably played for zero frames or something. Can't turn sound on in school.
