Din's fire sometimes not showing up

9 replies · 1,831 views · Started 22 November 2006

I released Castle Haunt III in the 2.11b10b as I guess you noticed.
Sometimes it seems Din's Fire just doesn't show up when the player opens the chest.
So far it's only been reported twice so many have gotten it while for no good reason others do not.
It's given as a regular item (not special item) and placed in a chest set up as lock blocks.
Needless to say it destroys the quest at that point for those who don't get it.

EDIT,

Another one.

elise unless there is a way to make it magically appear it's not there. there is a chest but it didn't hold dins fire ( at least not for me).

Freedom i think i have a problem. no dins fire.

I guess maybe I should just go ahead and remove the quest and wait for some stable version in the future.

i think the bug is that if you get a rupee in the room it will make the item in the chest vanish or something like that.... im pretty sure this HAS already been reported before....

Could be, I had some pots in the same room.
Too late anyway, I've edited and removed all the links and requested the threads to the quest be closed.
Maybe at some time in the future it will all come together, but the time ain't now.

Oh it's a damn shame that your quest release ended up like this. 😞

Those chests are evil. Sometimes they work but sometimes they won't give anything even though you have set an item for the chest. Seems like chests are still very buggy, both in beta 10 and beta 14 and I won't be touching them in a long time.

Give me the EXACT contents of the room, and the EXACT setup of the chest. Everything.

I think I already did, the chest is put together with lock blocks the old fashioned way, and the room has 4 pots in it other than the chest.
I think Franpa probably nailed the cause, some people are probably slashing the pots first and getting a rupie, while others may not be.
An easy enough work around, I just didn't know what was causing the problem.
😉

Odd, I didn't think getting the rupee would make the regular item disappear. I'll have to take a look into that.

Unless the rupee of course is a special item, in which case that WILL happen.

There are no "special items" in the room.
I had no idea what was causing it, It happened to some people and not others, that's why I pulled the quest.

Edit,
The room type was set to none, but at some point I had placed a armos=item flag on one of the pots, or it transfered from a copy/paste, I'm not sure which.... but that seems to be what was causing it.
It's possibe that I started to put an item in the pot, since when I clicked room type special item, it went to a magic jar, and then realizing I had an item in that room already, decided against it and turned it back off.
SO... what it might be is that when you set up a room type special item, changing the room type back to none isn't turning it off and removing the special item.

I think what we need here (Regardless of whether this is a potential cause or not, which for all I know it might be.) is a quest rule that states that getting a special item nor pickup item doesn't make all the other items in the room disappear. I keep getting the feeling that it's involved with this bug in some way.
