'm planning on polling a few message boards on their favorite tracks, and from each board, I'm planning to take the top 75 or so and encoding them from their respective music archives into a community top pics collection. Doesn't matter how many of your favorite tracks you list, so go for it! I'll be planning to release it after about a month from now on a b/t tracker.
Tracklisting total as of Oct 6, 10:48am: 205

Modus Ponens 04 Oct 2006, 18:38

This is by no means an exhaustive list, but it does have some gems that I love that aren't listed already.

FINAL FANTASY VI: Terra
FINAL FANTASY VII: Main Theme
SUPER SMASH BROTHERS MELEE: Main Theme (not the title theme, which is pretty okay, I guess--the primary track that plays when you're selecting a character)
KATAMARI DAMACY: Katamari On The Rocks, Lonely Rolling Star, Cherry Blossom Color Season
WE [HEART] KATAMARI: Bluffing Damacy, Baby Universe
ALUNDRA: Overworld Theme
TERRANIGMA: Zue
SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS: That rad exciting theme that plays when you climb around on some of the colossi. It's in 3/4 time (or maybe 6/8); I don't really know how else to describe it and I don't know what it's called but they use it in at least one of the game's trailers
MEGA MAN II: Dr. Wily's Castle Legs 1 & 2
MEGA MAN III: Snake Man, Spark Man, Magnet Man, Shadow Man
MAGIC OF SCHEHERAZADE: Title Theme

That's all I can think of right now. I have to go to school.

I'm surprised to not see a few so far, so I'll add my own list. By the way, are you going to make a mix of all 75 songs, or just a listing? I haven't seen a musical project this ambitious in a long time.

Oh, and do they have to be console games only? Because there's a few snazzy tunes from PC games that I've got to include as well.

Tygore 04 Oct 2006, 23:50

How could I forget Chrystal Chronicles? That music was great. Veo lu Sluice and Sad Monster (the bagpipe music for the final boss) are my favorites.

Modus Ponens 05 Oct 2006, 04:42

Listing and an encode to mp3s; and as said in the first posting, this has been mirrored to 4 other boards (though, for a few games, I might have to use midis, as some stuff isn't emulated yet =/ )

PC games are included, but might be a bit harder for me to find the cds and such

**I Don't have time to delve into all the excelent (and not so excelent) music of the Final Fantasy games...

Beldaran 05 Oct 2006, 16:50

You might as well save yourself some work and just include the whole Chrono Trigger soundtrack, as it's the greatest wad of music ever slopped together.

Quoted for freakin' truth. I listed my three favorites from CT, but there's really no comparison. It's one of those things where the music and game really worked together beautifully, and I believe the game truly can be called a work of art. By the way, if any of you haven't go to ocremix.org and download the Chrono Symphonic collection. One of the best compilations you can find.

mrz84 05 Oct 2006, 22:48

FF6 - The Veldt, The Devil's Lab, World of Balance, The Falcon(WOR Airship) Theme, Shadow's Theme

Kingdom Hearts - Hikari(or he opening/ending theme)
Kingdom Hearts 2 - Organization XIII Boss Battle Theme
Disgaea 2 - The opening theme

the list goes on, but I'm on a time limit (curse you library system!)

I can provide both songs that I listed.

ZTC 27 Oct 2006, 19:17

GIVE! 🙄

Midterms sucked and got me sidetracked. Saving respective pages, and I'll have a listing next week. The encode may take me awhile. (then again, it might not...)

Darth Marsden 28 Oct 2006, 20:09

It's hard to pick out individual tracks from a game - I just tend to go by games. For example, the (unofficial) soundtrack to Prince of Persia: Two Thrones is on my playlist at the moment, but I couldn't tell you any of the track names. 'cause they don't have any. They're ripped from the game y'see. Which isn't illegal, 'cause I own the game. Hmm.

But individual tracks... I'll give it a go.

Sonic 3: Ice Cap, Zone I
Final Fantasy VII: Sephiroth's Theme
Zelda Ocarina of Time: Hyrule Field

...and, for some reason, Final Fantasy IX: Crossing Those Hills

I'm sure there's more, but off the top of my head, that's about it.
