Creating dungeons

After playing a few quests, I've desided to try my hand at making my own.

I'm using the example-bs1st tileset (basically by deleting all the map tiles except the templates), but when I try to use a template to make a dungeon room, the door locations are represented by garbled sprites. I've seen people saying that you can hand-draw the dungeon rooms, but how are doors handled in that case? Can I just draw over the doors, and will they still work if I do? What about using the door tool? Is it possible to "fix" the template?

I've looked around for the answer, but none of the tutorials cover drawing your own room...I'd apreciate any help anyone could give me.

If you draw in your own doors, you will need to know how to trigger them using secret combos.

If the doors are wrong using the doors tool, then you must need to install the door combos into the combo sets.

Okay...so how do I go about doing that?
