Download Assisted Download Manager... scary

Check out this link about Gamespot's new download manager. The article is vague as to whether the software actually contains it, but the user agreement allows for the company to, without user consent, automatically upgrade the software. It also allows for a DRM (Digital Rights Management) program to be run, which can pay attention to every time you open the file and send it back to both Cnet and MS. The program can be used to control demos as well, and the article says it could simply delete the downloaded program after a specified amount of time.

What is happening to the internet? It's getting to where I want to have two computers, one hooked up to the internet and one with no connection, just to avoid spyware. It really pisses me off. If Post were to put a new ingredient in Rasin Bran and not denote it on their label, they'd be in a mess with the FDA. Why should software be different? Shouldn't the user know what they are downloading?

But never like this... most spyware simply monitors your actions and reports on them. This spyware actually has the power to restrict your access to files on your computer, or delete them totally without your permission. I don't like the idea of software that can render parts of my computer inoperative without my permission.

This is the begining of M$ evil plot to fuck up everything. Beware, this is the beginning of the end! 😉

Psst.. Here's a little program that helps tracks down spyware and deletes it. Its very good and all should try it if they don't want spyware.
