as some of you know, i just got linux installed! and using it right now! but i need to know how to use .tar.gz files. and when i opened some rpms like AIM or opera i can't find where they were intstalled to.
help me
.tar.gz or .tgz files can be tricky.
They are usually source code, or sometimes they will contain an install script.
RPMs are far easier. When you install an RPM it usually adds a command to your system, so you can usually start the program from the command line.
And AIM's exextable is in /usr/bin I think. It is called aim, again I think it is. Make a shortcut to it on your desktop.
