    Elgato Game Capture HD

I've upgraded my EasyCap to an Elgato Game Capture HD. I really like it so far, but the software can be a bit cumbersome. It also uses a lot of CPU to run compared to the last device, but I'm okay with that for the improved recording quality. I've compiled a test, which I've linked to. I tested all of my consoles on various settings such as composite, component, and HDMI through the RetroN 5. I'm still not quite sure which setting to use for the NES, SNES, and N64, though the Playstation consoles speak for themselves. What do you think? Has anyone else used capture cards in the past?

I've thought some about it, but heard they carry hefty price tags. It'd be great for some video journalism though

It was $140. Its not nearly as expensive as some of the larger ones that include storage. My last one cost me $7 on Amazon.

140 is definitely not what I had mind as "expensive", I'll say that. I'd have expected another digit.

Not necessarily. It "upscales" to 1080p, but you're really only getting 480i or whatever the highest resolution is for the system and the type of video cable you are using. I'm not really 100% sure on the tech, myself. It just looks a LOT less fuzzy and much nicer than the $7 capture card I had before.

That explains it better, I think.

Now, the RetroN 5, which is a retro clone system that plays NES, SNES, Genesis, Famicom, Super Famicom, Gameboy and Gameboy Advance output to 1080p through HDMI. That's what those parts are for. Just trying to see which looks better, the actual system or the 1080p RetroN 5.
