    Saw this on Facebook, epic.

Sad the class laughed at him because it was the popular thing to do. He did drag on the end a bit, becoming slightly whiny, but understandably so. The teacher has been identified as Julie Phung. She teaches at Duncanville High School in Texas. I'm wondering why she has the OSU flag, most teachers I know here attended school there...

If he had a halfway decent teacher, he might speak proper English.

Too bad there is nothing indicative of the prior events that led up to this particular discussion.
They both made a few valid points, the teacher and the student. I'm sure I had many a day of doing only reading and writing when I was back in school..
I do believe it's a semi awkward miscommunication if I heard that right, the kid is trying to elaborate that the teacher should not be concerned only with her paycheck, the teacher is telling the kid that he is "wasting her time." The job of being a teacher is to teach the children in the first place, and I can't really see myself agreeing that she has any free time to be wasted doing something else while she's being paid as a public school teacher, her job is there to be teaching... However, that's one of those catch 22's because I would also believe that a teacher, as long as they are meeting at least some minimum requirements of fitting the bill for what subject matter they are there to teach, should be listened too and respected to the extent that the kids shouldn't interrupt the class room or be insubordinate while they are there, unless there is something absolutely atrocious going on, which is something I'm just not going to hypothesize on for a myriad of reasons.

Growing up in one of the poorest, least performing counties in Georgia, I certainly knew a few teachers who would have benefited from having these "packets".

My take on the "wasting the teacher's time" aspect of this whole issue is that yes, I do believe you can waste a teacher's time if you're interfering with other students who are actually there to learn. Again, we have no idea what the situation is or what led up to this, but working as a teaching assistant myself, I've certainly had plenty of moments where students have wasted my time - not because I believe I have free time, but because I'm trying to help a student who actually wants to learn, and I have to stop what I'm doing to deal with some jackass who's disrupting the classroom. I certainly sympathize for the issue of lazy, self-important teachers, but just because of my job, I more often find myself on the other end of that - I'm working my ass off for ungrateful little bastards who'd rather cuss me out for offering to help them with their assignments (until the last week of school when they start whining and crying about how they're gonna fail because they didn't do anything).
The artist formally known as macweirdo42, formally known as weirdguy (it's a long, uninteresting story).

That last week of the semester is the worst, isn't it?

I would have liked to have taken a look at these "packets" to see what sort of material is presented, and the way they are. It's not like student enthusiasm isn't a factor at all. Individuals can take it upon themselves to harvest an education wherever they can, but not every student can do it on their own. The teacher is the one to do that most of the time.
