Question Zelda Classic on the Gameshell

    Hello everyone !

I recently discover the Gameshell handheld game console.

The OS of this machine is Linux based. So I already asked if Zelda Classic is playable on it.
As you can see, the best result is this answer :

I tried to compile Zelda Classic on the GameShell, but the build scripts are not very ARM friendly. Even spent some time correcting stuff, but without success. Guess you need someone smarter than me.

Does anyone here (who got a Gameshell, maybe) could check it out ? I think it would be a great added value for the Gameshell and Zelda Classic to be compatible. My plan is to buy a Gameshell. Also, if some of you are ready and helping me out, could we try to create a compatible built ?

    Thanks !

It depends on what CPU the device uses. ZC can run on a portable Linux device with an i686 based / compatible CPU, but not on ARM, or other non i386-series chips. Our libs are architecturally locked at present--we don't even support PPC anymore. ARM is out of the question. There's no support for Allegro 4.4 on ARM at all, so you'd need to start there.

Note that the minimum system specs, particularly on Linux, are high-enough to mean that many cheap, portable devices are simply incapable of running it. If you don't have 400MB+ of available RAM and a CPU up to 2009-ish desktop specs, it probably won't be worthwhile. My old Del Inspiron 910 (a.k.a. thel 'Mini 9' netboo)k, running Ubuntu 10.04, couldn't run ZC fast-enough to play basic quests. :/

Anyway, it'll never run on the device that you're mentioning; and you'll need to step up to a much more sophisticated device. TBH, I've meant to test out ZC on those portable Win10 gaming tablet things. Those are a far more viable candidate for portable ZC.

    Hi ZoriaRPG,

Thanks for your reply. Sadly the Gameshell use an ARM CPU. By the away I think it could have kept up with the RAM and the power of the processor. You can not really compare a notebook with this kind of device.

However you said it, "not ARM compatible" :)

Thanks for all that you have done so far to bring us ZC
