I hear about retroarch because I read about retropi as an alternative to NES Classic. Retroarch is suddenly everywhere. I finally download it on PC to satisfy nostalgia for some old school goodness with some newfound freetime. I create Play it Forward because retroarch introduces me to retroachievements. I dip into this forum to catch up on all of the threads I missed...and now I've come full circle.
I'm not exactly sure but I believe you're better off using a Raspberry Pi 3 than the NES Classic if you want a tiny emulation box. Pretty sure the RPi3 is going to significantly outperform the NES Classic. Plus more storage, more options.
I'd rather flip the thing for the extra cash and get another Pi. It's nice having official Nintendo hardware, sure - but this is taking the Virtual Console to the next level. Remember when dataminers found out some of the VC games were literally downloaded Roms by checking the header? I sure do. I'd rather play weird rom mods with the ability to play the original now and again as well.

They certainly did. Although I haven't much exposure to technobuffalo, I have seen similar articles explaining the details of how the rom header is blatantly visible if you check the hex on the VC roms. Not super surprised here; really it just shows the quality that the emulation scene provides.
